Hi there,
Just a little confused,...is luster dust or pearl dust okay to put on our cakes to be eaten? If not, are we supposed to put little signs on our cakes that say "peel this part off?" That sounds so dumb but how do we protect our clients and ourselves if someone gets sick from this stuff. I would like to use this on the pearls I will put around my cross cake for Easter but I am a little leary. I haven't been cake decorating for very long but I know that people WILL PUT ANYTHING IN THEIR MOUTHS! Please advise.

You're from CA which is the one state where this is pursued. If I lived in CA and I was going to be using anything on my cakes that contained silver (dusts, dragees, etc), I would have my client sign a waiver stating that they understand the cake deco in question is not meant to be eaten but is for decoration only and should be removed from the cake prior to serving. There have been a number of lawsuits in CA and many retailers won't even ship these items to CA for fear of being sued.

Wow, Lisa, thanks for making my decision easy! Guess my pearls in buttercream will have to suffice.
