For a while there, I was getting 2-3 birthday cakes a week, and really enjoying it! Then the wedding season hit and all I got were calls from brides...(I have a nice steady, easy summer ahead of me, no crazy weeks!) But once the wedding season is over, then what? I am curious why the birthday cakes business has dried up. (Havent had an order for a birthday cake in a month) Everyone said they loved my cakes, and I got really good feedback! I put out flyers in my neighbhorhood, but nothing yet. (I was thinking of offering a free cake to our local swimclub..maybe some moms will taste the cakes and want to order...I also am doing a large cupcake order practically free for a local scout group hoping that will help) But I have run out of ideas on how to drum up some of the birthday cake, anniversary cakes, things like that, business. I love doing the weddings, and I love working with the brides, but is our business just to do wedding cakes?

I have donated to the PTA for family nights, boy scout troops for banquets, church events, and passed out my cards at my kids soccer, t-ball games. Word of mouth is the best.

Word of mouth is really best. The way mine started was with my hairdresser. Bring her a small cake to the shop....with some cards. There are a lot of people that come in there on a daily basis and I have gotten tons of business that way. Not only from the lady that cuts my hair but from her customers and the other hairdressers. That is where most of my business comes from. Also, if you have a local printer or card shop in your neighborhood. Drop in with a few of your cards and some flyers and maybe a small little cake. I did that with some cookies and have also gotten business that way. I am the opposite, I have more birthday cakes than wedding cakes and would like to do more wedding cakes icon_smile.gif Good luck............but trust me..............the hairdresser thing really works thumbs_up.gif

i agree with the hairdresser thing. my hairdresser has ordered 2 cakes from me in 2 months and a lady she got my name from has ordred 3 cakes from me so far!! i don't get it, but that does seem to be a great outlet! i really only want to do b-day cakes, baby shower, etc. NO weddings, so for me this is great. Oh, know any nurses? my friend is a nurse, and i'll send cakes in with her, got an order from someone else that way. i don't work, and my husband is in sales (no office) so i have to be creative
