I just got an order for a birthday cake with Gen. Grievous from Star Wars on it. I looked it up online, and HOLY COW!!! How the heck can I do this? I'll try to attach a pic or a link to a pic. There is so much detail! I've only done an FBCT once, and it was not very good (it was the Star Wars cake in my photos). Usually, I enlarge the picture, cut it out, and trace around the outline and fill in the details, but I'm doubting myself here. Would it be easier to try to cut pieces from fondant? This is due on Saturday. Any suggestions????

I know very little about airbrush. Is this something that you could airbrush. The way may be to have an edible image done of this and then if you think it needs more detail overpipe it. Do you have the WBH book. They show you how to make thin figures out of chocolate.

You could make a fondant figure then cut out fondant pieces to go over top and use the picture sort of as a template... your figure wouldn't have to be perfect as all the pieces going over it......I don't know what else to tell quite the figure there lol

This is a super character to do out of fondant cut-outs!

I'd enlarge the photo, trace over it onto parchment with a black sharpie. Transfer the entire shape to the cake top using a piping gel transfer (or sometimes I just go around the general outline with a small tracing wheel). Cut out an entire figure in steel grey/black and then add white pieces. I'd make the light sabers out fondant rolls, too. You could highlight with with luster dusts--super pearl, charcoal, moonstone, nu silver, etc.

Happy decorating,
Rae

I agree with Rae, that seems like the easiest thing to do. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!
