hello to all
Someone of the forum might help me with the search ' gum tragacanth '
I live in Montreal, Quebec I have gone to several shops and I do not find it.
Someone know where to buy it or it is possible to substitute with another thing.

thanks

Angie

Hi Angie,

I have purchased gum tragacanth, but only on-line. It is apparently a natural product and fairly expensive, but it is the traditional gum in gumpaste. It you can't find it you can substitute tylse, which keeps things a little whiter and is a lot less expensive. They both taste fairly yucky. I believetylose works faster than gum trag in setting up the gumpsate to make it workable. I use it fairly frequently, both making my own gumpaste and just adding it to fondant to make modeling paste.

BTW, for me homemade gumpaste dires too quickly and storebought dries too slowly, so I ususally mix 2/3 homemade to 1/3 bakels Pettinice (gumpaste not fondant)

I'm not an expert by any means so hopefully someone more knowledgeable can tell you more, but this is what I know from my own experience.

Good Luck!

Shalom,

Go to Scott Clark Woolleys site. He sells
everything and I use his trag, it's great!
www.cakesbydesign.cc
He's by far the best sugarpaste flower designer
I've ever taken a class with.
Hope that helps.

Hi Angie,

I'm also from Montreal! Whereabouts in Montreal are you? I'm from Pierrefonds. I recently bought gum trag at this little store called Rose Blanche in Lachine. I really can't remember how much it was, maybe about $5 for about 2 tbsp. Not much! Did you try France Decor too? They may have it there too. I know sometimes it's hard to get some stuff out here. People talk about some stuff and it's impossible to find here! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif
