Well I have had my first major cake disaster.....

I took on a chevvy car commision..and thought I would give it a go..didnt think it would be soo hard....
Baked and carved my car ..well it looked like a tank..I froze the cake before hand and for somereason when it thawed one layer went mushy.......Didnt realise this for a little while and continued in vain to try and sort my tank out I carved and carved and carved the cake got smaller and smaller but still looked liked a tank...
Gave up for the day..came back to it the next morning realised the bottom had gone funny .........whole lot in the bin....could Hvae cried icon_cry.gif ...Got onto baking the next cake for it...decided I was on a losing battle here..called the customer and explanined I wasnt happy with the cake and and gave various options....in the end I also wasnt feeling well and have gots on this week..

In the end she still wanted a 3D chevvy car and I knew it wasnt going to happen so I had to give it to the local cake shop to do and make up the difference in money..
At least she got her cake...I got a day in bed to recover before the next lot of cakes..I hate cooking when feeling unwell and I now also know not to do cars.... icon_redface.gif

Oh well so much for getting some money..this whole thing has left me out of pocket and worried sick and felt sick aswell...wot a good start to the week..Also feel really down cos I let myself down and feel I am no good at cakes now icon_cry.gif

Try again when you feel better. It has been a rough winter/ spring for us here with colds and such also. Chin up and try in the summer months!

Your cakes are great!! I think we all get discouraged sometimes but don't quit. You're very good at cakes. 3D cars are very difficult. I wasn't happy with my first one either. In fact, I hated it. The customer liked it, though I still can't figure out why...? Practice makes perfect. Maybe when you're up to it, you can try another sometime for practice and give it away. Wilton has a 3D car shaped pan you could try too...

Good luck. I hope you feel better soon!
