Okay...I admit it.....I am totally addicted to this stuff now icon_biggrin.gif I just got back from town, I went to find "tylos" to make white gumpaste. I can not find it anywhere and no one even knew what I was talking about. But I did come back with.......
tips #'s 349, 340, 61, 106, 3, 65,1L, 402, 88, 401, 105,79, 86,406, 352, 31, the large side edger/basket weave, 2 bags, 2 couplings, the large coupler, a long bent spatula and a wilton book of common tips and how to's. Also got the whitner, butter flavoring, more candy discs, more gelatin, colums, and two "plates" I also got playdo molds and cutters. Oh and a small cake leveler.
Is there any hope for me???? Have to hide all this stuff from hubby, he'll have a bird if he sees it all icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif
So.....what else do I need (apart from a money tree)

My dh is an enabler. He just suprised me with an airmaster airbrush system. Only problem is he didn't buy me any colors for it. So I got on Sugarcraft.com and ordered some and of course I needed some books on techniques. And while I was there I had to have some luster dusts and americolors and etc. Heehee. I had fun. and hubby is forever doing things like that. He'll see something and think it will come in handy for my cakes and buy it for me. icon_cool.gif

taigen,

are you shopping at hobby lobby? If so, do you know about the online coupon. Every other week hobby lobby has an online 40% off one item coupon, can use it on one item everytime to shop that week.

I recently found out that my local Michael's crafts, they will take one of their 40% off coupons, along with a Joann's 40% off, and a Hobby Lobby 40% off coupon. So I can get three things, all at 40% off and not have to make separate trips. I've been buying all of my pans and accessories this way. I think because I shop there so much that they will even let me make multiple orders so that I don't have to pretend that my daughter is shopping also. They just have to ring up the second Michaels coupon as a second total. So have your friends and family save all of those coupons for you. Every little bit helps to support you habit.

I went to the cake store and bought some cookie cutters (dragonfly, butterfly, graduation cap, etc.) at lunch. That night I was using them and my husband came in and said, "I didn't know you had a dragonfly cutter." I said "oh yeah, I've had it for a while".
My husband doesn't say much, as he is into wood working and spends money on exotic woods and likes to buy thnings from e-bay.

Everyone has to have a outlet, mine just happens to be cake decorating!

You guys are too, too funny, LOL!

I thought I was the only one hiding all this stuff from my DH!

I don't even sell my cakes, just starting and had to buy tons of "stuff" to experiment with. I try to do it mostly on my days off while DH is at work.

Worst part is my 3 year old. She rats me out all the time...."Daddy, we went to the cake store/baking store/craft store today..." I should start telling her those places are called "the supermarket" and that rolling fondant on the kitchen table is called "doing laundry". icon_rolleyes.gif

Oh my........is there any hope for ANY of us hahahaha...this really is too funny!! I hid all the stuff today so far, so good!!! I just tried showing him Earlene's cake and his comment was "that's nuts, it's just cake"!!! So I think I will keep my new additions well hidden icon_biggrin.gif
We only have one craft store here for Wilton products and a bulk barn that sells a little of Wilton's things. That is actually where I got most of the things today and they are sooo much cheaper!
I have already told ALL friends/family to save (shoot he just walked past the computer LOL!!))) Anyway, they are all saving me coupons for Michaels so I can get the set of pans 40% off and I would like to get the pasta maker at 40% off too.
Kids playdo sections have tons of stuff you could use with fondant, paste and clay. I guess where I do so many other things I just knew to look there. Two of the molds I got today have all sorts of leaves so I will make my own "tools" from them. Just use fimo, take it out of the mold and bake....presto...new "veiner"???
My problem is I have always done soooo many different 'crafts' that I have tons of stuff for all of them. Although they ALL get used. I used to have a studio here is the house before the kids grew and took over the room. Now they are grown and slowly moving out I am debating having a studio again. I've made things since I was knee high to a grasshopper!! I blame my grandad, he was always the same way.
Can't tell you how many laughs I got at this thread.....((thank you))
Oh and by the way.....I DO have a money tree!!! A friend bought it for me years ago and it is still alive (amazingly!)...it just doesn't give me any real money, maybe because it is a chinese money tree!!! I'll have to try and take a pic of it sometime to show you.
Thanks again for a good laugh at "our" addictions!!!! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

I too am a beginner, and can't walk into the local craft stores without looking for something on sale that has to do with decorating cakes. Now I am starting to check out cookie cutters (found a great lobster shaped one in PA yesterda). This is getting as bad as my sewing pattern buying - when they are on sale for 99cents, I ususally get 10 (they are normally over $11.05 each)......despite the fact I will not live long enough to sew all these things, I tell my husband I saved over $100! Now with the sales coupons, I can start telling him that about my cake decorating things.... on those he actually sees coming in the door anyway... icon_cool.gif

Count me in too!. I am pretty new as well so I pretty much need everything (OK I NEEDED everything..I probably don't need anything anymore but am still buying stuff LOL) Every trip to the store tends to result in my hubby rolling his eyes and smirking. He then tells me that I am baking with his new truck. I just tell him that I can bake him a cake shaped like a truck, plus my baking will eventually BUY him a new truck so I don't listen. LOL

Hi..Did you all know that if you sing up for their Newsletter they will send you the adds on Sunday. You can print out all the cupons you need..the only thing is you can only use one at a time.I have used several ..just made my purchase..took to the car and went back and got whatever else I wanted.I have found that their stock can be short if you don't get there early on MONDAY MORNING. You can find all kinds of pans on Ebay.I also sell pans and cookie cutters on Ebay.I have just about any cutter you might want.
About the clay used to make a leaf..you do know it is not safe to use the same mold for caly and food. Now I have used these molds to made molded cookies..but they must be new and CAN NOT be used for clay and food. They don't cost much buy 2 if you plan to use for clay and food.

Yes!!! definetly use the playdo tools ONLY for the gumpaste etc. Mine are all kept seperate. Another thing I used to help shape/mold/vein the leaves are silk leaves. Make sure you wash them well first. Then after rolling and cutting press the gumpaste into the underside of the silk leave and let dry. They took on the shape and veining of the leaf and peeled off very easily when dry. With all this scrapbooking craze going on there are MANY of those tools that are useful with gumpaste also, again keep them seperate. I just prefer the playdo tools as they are sooo much cheeper and they have such a wide variety, even extruders etc. with various shapes etc. Very durable because they are made for kids. Guess I'm just still a kid at heart LOL icon_biggrin.gif
Oh you can also get your own mold making compound. It is $4. a pkg here and will make your own "silicone" mold. You can get a large tub for $30.??? Mix up, press whatever it is you want a mold of into it, let dry and then you have the mold. Says it is non toxic.....I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks again for the laugh over this....I'm still hiding my goodies icon_smile.gificon_smile.gif

My seven year old son used to rat me out to my hubby everytime I went shopping to buy "necessary items" that I later hid around the house. I finally told him one day that if he ratted me out one more time I would never buy him another toy. To this day he has yet to rat me out again.

I also find that "reorganizing" the kitchen is a great way to put in new supplies without it being noticed. If he ask if that is new, I just say, "No, I just found it when I reorganized the cabinets." This trick also works on reorganizing the closet and discovering new clothes. icon_wink.gif

I'm so happy to hear there are other people like me out there. I hide my shopping evidence in my kitchen cabinets. My husband NEVER goes through them and I have accummulated so much stuff within the past year of my hobby that he has no clue what I had.

Unfortunately, I think the only two hobbies I have are the most time-consuming and very expensive hobbies - cake decorating and scrapbooking. I spend a fortune on both of them. Have you ever looked at other people and wonder "where do they get the money to spend soo much on shoes, clothes, new cars, etc...."? My husband says that I could have all the same things if I stopped buying cake and scrapbook stuff too. icon_lol.gif That is where all my money goes. But at least with my cake decorating I can make a little money back. I always tell my husband that this hobby will pay itself off in the long run. What he doesn't know, it will probably take me 10 years to break even with all that I buy! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Have laughed til my sides hurt at all of you hiding things from DH's. icon_lol.gif I knew there was a reason that I had been divorced for almost 24 years. My kids get on my case for all my collecting (with me it's not just cake pans and such). I finally had to slow down my buying on EBay. My daughter told me she didn't want to hear me griping about being broke and then come in to see boxes from the post office.

I don't know how it happened. I went to an estate sale and this woman had boxes of cake pans and decorating supplies. I watched a couple of women pilfering through the boxes and arranging things like they wanted to buy them and it made me mad so I just bought all the boxes. WHEW! Talk about a bunch of mad women! icon_mad.gif From there I just kept buying stuff. Have all my pans organized in the shed and my supplies organized in the kitchen. Now if I just had cake orders! Mostly I just make for my family and friends.

My daughter took the Wilton courses and now she just borrows my stuff. I keep telling her she will inherit it someday. icon_biggrin.gif Both she and my son dread the day they have to disperse of all my collections. I'm a hoarder but I do organize and display all my collectibles. Have one bedroom with over a thousand M & M characters and as many Doughboys in my kitchen and dining room.

Keep up the good work of keeping those DH's in line and careful about threatening those kids. thumbs_up.gif They'll rat you out when you least expect it. icon_lol.gif
