Hi there!

I have been asked to make an Angel Food Cake for one of my husband's co-workers. I am making it from scratch. I've never done one before, but I found what looks to be a good, easy recipe.

Here's my question....
How can I dress it up to make it look special and not just something I bought at the grocery store? His company is paying for the cake and I want it to look like it came from a specialty bakery or something other than a grocery store.

Any ideas???

Thanks!
Brandi

These are great ideas! Please forgive me for my ignorance here....

when you say "real whipped cream", is that something you buy or do you make it? I'm not a big fan of whipped cream myself, and really my only experience with it is Cool Whip. Is that the same thing?

I like to make my own, but cool whip is yummy too!

I just read a thread about a woman who tried to use Bc on angel cake and it turned into a big problem, so I do not recomend that, but the jello thing sounds yummy too!

not an ignorant thing at all......i'm 50 and still ask things i think i should know but dont!! icon_biggrin.gif
by real whipped cream....i mean buying heavy cream which is sold in the section where milk is located......you actually whip it with a mixer (when you pour it in the bowl it will be thicker than milk... but still runny) till thick and add sugar....i use powdered sugar

it is sooooooo much better than cool whip for something like this....

just a tip.....put the bowl and the mixer beaters in the frig about 20 mins before you are ready to beat......it will help it get thicker faster....

let me know if i can be of any more help.....Donna

Here is an easy and quite pretty way to dress up a plain angel food cake.

LEMON FROSTED ANGEL CAKE

9 or 10 inch round angel food cake
21 oz can lemon pie filling
8 oz carton lemon yogurt
8 oz Cool Whip, thawed
Lemon slices for garnish

Cut cake horizontally into 4 layers using a serrated knife. In a medium bowl, combine pie filling and yogurt; blend well. Spread one third of the mixture (about 1 cup) between each cake layer. Frost top and sides with Cool Whip, making swirls with the back of a spoon. Garnish with lemon slices. Serves 12

I make this alot for parties. It is really fresh tasting and delicious! icon_smile.gif

Here's another one I found. I haven't tried this one, but it sounds quite good. It calls for a premade angel food cake, but you could use a from scratch recipe and add the almond extract to it.

CHERRY ALMOND TORTE
1 pkg angel food cake mix
1/2 tsp almond extract
1 cup marshmallow creme
21 oz can cherry pie filling
1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted

Prepare cake as directed, adding the almond extract with the water. Bake and cool. Remoe from pan. Split cake into two layers. Place bottom layer in serving plate. Spoon 2/3 cup marshmallow creme, by heaping teaspoons, onto bottom layer. Spoon one cup pie filling between spoonfuls of marshmallow creme. Sprinkle with half of the almonds. Place other layer on top. Spoon remaining cream and pie filling on top of cake, allowing pie filling to drizzle down sides. Sprinkle with remaining almonds. Chill.
