Hello everyone. Got a quick question. I'm going to make a Butter Pecan cake using a cake mix and I usually add one additional egg and a box of instant pudding to the mix to doctor it up a little. I'm having a hard time figuring out what flavor of pudding to put in a butter pecan cake. Any suggestions? I'm using a cream cheese frosting with a bit of maple and nut flavoring if this helps. Thanks so much!!!!

How about just plain vanilla, and maybe some maple flavoring?

whenever I have a dilemma like this I always opt for french vanilla, it has a nice smooth, not too powerful flavor......sometimes I find with delicately flavored cakes that the regular vanilla can sometimes take over the actually cake flavor....I have used the french vanilla for everything from lemon to strawberry, etc. and it never detracts from the cake flavor, just adds a nice background flavor.

Hello again. Thank you both for your help. I did make the butter pecan cake and I went with adding in the French Vanilla pudding mix and the maple flavoring. It turned out WONDERFUL!! Thank you both so very much!!

So what did you add to the mix to flavor the cake this way, and what icing did you use? It sounds super good!

TIA,
Suz

There are more flavors than you know that you can use. I have seen Butter Pecan Pudding. I usually make my Butter Pecan Cake, then i mix my butter pecan instant pudding, using only 1 cup of milk instead of 2. It makes it more like a thick filling. I pour half of my cake mix into a bundt pan. Then i use a spoon and dallop the pudding in blobs on the top of that layer. I then pour the remaining cake mix over that and bake. I usually drizzle a glaze on top and sprinkle chopped pecans on it. Its soooo good.. I always get compliments on how moist it is. I also love to mix and match cakes and puddings. Like chocolate cake w mint pudding, Strawberrry cake with cream cheese pudding, White cake with white chocolate pudding or coconut or banana pudding. The possibilites are endless. Im trying to figure out what type of pudding to use with a Red Velvet cake. Any suggestions? THanks:smile:

AI bet cheesecake flavored pudding would go well with it.. Isn't cream cheese frosting often used on red velvet cakes?

This is an interesting technique I haven't heard of. I must remember to try it some time.
