Help... Can I Put Fondant Around Stablized Whipped Cream?
Decorating By gotcake Updated 24 Apr 2005 , 2:01pm by m0use
I am trying to make a big martini glass cake...it will be chocolate cake and whipped cream icing. I want to cover the stem wich is not cake with fondant. I want the color and texture of the stem and cake to be the same so I was wondering if I could also cover the whipped cream with fondant after I iced the cake? Anybody know?
Thanks
Hey gotcake...noticed this was your first post. Let me be the first to welcome you to cakecentral.....you're gonna love it! How did you get your cute avatar so quickly? Sorry, I honestly don't know the answer to your question ...whipped icing might be a bit to "light" to support fondant, but I'm not certain. Someone will come thru with an answer for you real soon!!

Thank You,
I have kinda been just hanging out ...looking around a bit ...Learning alot! Afraid my only forum posts will be questions, not much help for others yet. I saw everybody else's cute avatar so I searched the web for an animated gif on food. I was going to roll it very thin but I think it might get gooey.. Maybe I will just try to smooth whipped cream around the stem too.
Thanks again " So much to learn from all this talent and knowledge"
I am not sure I quite follow. Are you asking if you can put whipped cream on the whole cake and then cover the whole cake with fondant or just the stem. If i was covering the whole cake in fondant I would not use whipped cream underneat. You could use a whipped buttercream but I would not use whipped cream.
Thank You...
Yes I want to put whipped cream on the whole cake and then cover the whole cake with fondant. The stem is fake so I know I can cover that with the fondant.
As I said before I would not do that. I would be afraid it would break down weight of the fondandt on top of it. If it was just scatter decroations made from fondant that would be fine. You would probably want to cover all with something different underneath.
Well I made the cake with stabilized whipped cream and it worked out well. I had to invert the doll cake and I was affraid the frosting would just fall off. I crumb coated with the stabilized cream first and I have to say it set pretty well. Then I finished it off with the stabilized cream and nothing fell off.
Thanks for the help,
