Ok, they are not 'low' quality, but they are not your cookies. BUT... I bet with a little instruction from you, I could do something pretty amazing, but when people are only paying $.75 per cookie, I cannot justify that kind of work. I think as a thrill I am going to make just a handful of cookies for myself and see how creative I can get. When they are for orders, it's like... only give them their money's worth, you know? NO offense to the customers, I LOVE them, but I am not going to give them $6 cookies for seventy-five cents!
Melvira, I love your cars. They are very creative and adorable. I know exactly what you mean about the pricing. I make very extravagant cookies for my family, but not so much for any others. Nobody except my family knows how much time goes into just one of those buggers!!
I'm putting the finishing touches on my royalty cookies -- should be posting them either tomorrow or the next day!
Bonniebakes, those are PERFECT!!! I love them both!
Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like Miss Wonderbuns may be taking us for a ride? I'm not sure I believe there are any cookie pix coming our way! Oh shoot, I'm just teasing you!!!
Bonniebakes - Those cookies are really cute. I want a piece of that cake!!
Melvira - Love the car. Great tie-in with the royalty theme. I'm like nefgaby, no imagination to think outside the cookie cutter.
I'm sure Miss Wonderbuns is really baking some royalty cookies. After all, we all know that us mere mortals have to wait for royalty and they will arrive in their own time.
Haha Barbara!! If she would just deign to share her cookies with us working class stiffs... We love you Bob-O... thanks for letting us give you some grief!!
Melvira I love your little cars especially the flames very creative
Bonnie that cookie cake is just georgous and I love your cards
Great work you two everyone on here has just inspired me to get my creative thinking cap on for May's theme I just hope I can measure up to all of you lol
I am in awe of each and every one of you who posted this month. Your skills are flawless and inspiring. If I can stop "praying to the porcelain god" so much this month, (No, I am not a boozer... just preggers.) maybe I will join in on the fun in May. It would be a paltry offering, but a fun one! Thank you all for giving us all something to aspire to in a friendly environment! I love Cake Central! Btw...has the topic been chosen for May yet?
What fantastic cookies...how inspirational!
I can't wait until tomorrow to see what the theme is.
Congrats to all those who posted pic. They're wonderful.
Awww bambuf... congratulations!!! We should make you some baby cookies!!! We looooove babies!
Thanks, Melvira! This is my third child, so apparently I love babies too! I just don't like what they have done to my waistline. Of course, baking could have a lot to do with that too! LOL
Hahaha! We're always trying to blame those babies, aren't we? I know in reality it's the fact that I'm a good cook... but my little guy makes an excellent scape goat, at least until he starts to understand what I'm saying when I blame him!
Well, there is more truth to that than I want to admit. But, let's face it... They need fluffy women like me to make the scrawny ones look good! LOL
Bonniebakes - I love the little crown on the slice of cake. Very, very clever!
Bambuf - congratulations. Can one be too old to blame their waistline on babies? My youngest is 17!!!
Can't wait for all the May cookies.
Thanks for the congrats, McMama...and no, I don't think it is ever too late to blame them...my MIL still blames my husband (who is 32) for her hair turning gray when he was born... Mom's are funny!
bonniebakes,
Excellent Entry ( At the 11th hour!!!!)
That slice of cake is adorable--hand cut I assume?
And the royal straight flush--Well done!!! I like how you did the cards
"separately" with your royal. I probably would have filled the whole cookie in then piped lines on top. Your way makes them look real and stacked!! Nice!
Well done bonniebakes! Nice slice of cake. And the royal flush cards are a neat idea for the theme.
Thank you, everyone!!!!!
I just barely made it in under the waire, I know!
The cards and the cake slice were both hand cut. I outlined each card first, then filled them in with a slightly different color.... maybe that's why they look more dimensional (???)
And here they are, better late than never, my contribution to the April cookie Club theme of Royalty! I must first preface this by saying that my cookies are not anywhere near as cool as the ones already posted -- we have some amazing talent going on here in this thread! And I want to thank everyone who inquired about me during my surgery -- all is well. Thank you for asking. (Gee, I sound like I'm accepting an award, don't I?)
When the theme of "royalty" came around I had just finished reading a book on Russian history -- on the Romanov dynasty in the 1800s which started with Nicholas I and went on through to Nicholas II and included everyone inbetween (including some of the nannies and household employees who stayed with several generations of this dynasty.) It was a fascinating book really. One thing I came away with, which heavily influenced these cookies, was the fact that royalty is steeped in "the haves" vs. "the have nots." One thing the royals had was jewelry and intricate lacework. Things that cost a lot to show affluence. I incorporated this with the fancy gold embroidered gloves that the ladies would have worn to fancy teas (notice the size of the cookies are small -- tea cookies as it were). Having these fancy afternoon teas was a big thing with them as well, which influenced why I made the cookies small (the largest is 2 inches, the rest are 1 inch.) The glove cookies are a rolled cookie with fondant overlay gilded with Super Pearl and super gold Lustre Dust.
I used gold framed pearl cameos, both Greek and Roman cameos all done with fondant and Lustre Dust to represent the fancy jewelry and brooches the female royals would wear. I included small gold fondant fleur-dis-lis on cookies to represent the french aristocracy as well -- that was a symbol of french royalty. I set all these cookies on doilies which represented the lace and fancy table cloths they liked to eat from, and confined the colors to gold and pearl Lustre Dust, also symbolic of wealth and status in the royal courts. Overall I am very happy with the way they turned out!
Gorgeous and well worth the wait!! Glad to hear that all went well with the surgery too!
Buns- How did you do the fleur-dis-lis? They would be perf. on a paris cake I have upcoming!!
The fleur-dis-lis were done in fondant in a mold I bought from Nick Lodge. I let it dry overnight then gilded it with gold lustre dust and confectioners glaze, let dry and attached to the cookie with corn syrup.
Your cookies are incredible bobwonderbuns!!! I'm sorry I missed that you were having surgery, but I'm glad you are okay!
Kathi
Your cookies are beautiful. If you don't mind I would love to copy the glove cookies. They would be perfect for a cotillion that we have coming up. I have never used fondant on cookies or in a mold. Could you tell me how you did this? Is there a demo somewhere?
Oh, did I tell you that they really amazing?!!!
Thank you! Sure, you can use the design. Actually the cookies are pretty easy to do, I got the glove mold from Houseonthehill.net and made the glove cookies. Then after they were cool I pressed fondant into the same mold and made a glove imprint and let the dry a tad and put it on the glove cookie with corn syrup. Let those dry and dust with pearl dust and gild with gold lustre dust and vodka. Very easy!
I did the cameos and fleur-dis-lis the same way by using small cutout cookies and using fondant in a mold. (Can you tell I love molds and lustre dust??)
