I think I've found my perfect solution, at least for now. There's no way for me to operate legally out of my home right now, even though I still do a few cakes for family and friends. With renting our house and not being able to go through all the legal hoops, I finally turned to teaching the Wilton courses. I'm sure it's not for everyone, but it is so much fun, and since I get paid I can justify my cake addiction! I went through a big headache at Michaels first and never taught until I switched to AC Moore, where the people are friendly and I love my class! I only teach one night a week, and it is so cool to see students getting as excited as I am about cakes. I get to meet great people and feel like I'm giving something to them.
I still get the joy of making creative cakes for family and friend's birthdays, but I don't get paid for those (sometimes just reimbursement if they insist), so this just is working great! icon_smile.gif Just thought I would share.
But I still dream of having my home business someday! Way to go to all of you who have done it!!!

Go to www.wilton.com and click on the button "Instructors Needed" - then you can fill out an application, and they will contact you if they have an opening. Stores that already have an instructor can usually use another one!
Good luck if you apply!

Hello to everyone. with wilton it all depends if they have openings in the area. try to be patient. It took me about 4 months. I love to help others and you can learn new things from others in your class. You also get to bond with other people. In my class the students are great we have fun. I try not to make it boring and let them use there imagination. Hang in there don't give up. If you have to email or call just letting them know that your still interested.
have fun good luck

mommabuda, no you do not have to take the 3 day class, as long as you have done your 3 courses. You will have to send pics of your cakes and wait for an opening in your area.
good luck with the new baby. just had first grandchild 3 weeks ago and loving every min. party.gif

I think teaching the Wilton Way of Cake Decorating is a wonderful way to share and get some compensation for your time. I tried that avenue, but the times AC Moore wanted me to hold the classes were inflexible and I couldn't fit it in around my work schedule. Congratulations to you!!! and Best Wishes for the future. birthday.gifbirthday.gif
