I was talking to my son's teacher today and she mentioned she would like me to make a cake for a banquet. She said she knows mine taste better than what they got last year icon_smile.gif She said last year's was very large. How much cake would it take to feed about 160 people, what size pans, one or two layers, what do I put it on for a base, do they make boxes that big, and how on earth do I decide how much to charge????????? I have a little time to figure this out , but need all the advice I can get! THANKS!

If you would go to the wilton website, they have a cake serving chart. I think earlenes cakes has one too.

Are you planning on making sheet cake or what?

The Wilton site states one 12" x 18" sheet cake will feed 72 people. I just made 3 of them last weekend for 200 + people and there was lots to go around. HTH icon_biggrin.gif

what you could also consider is sheet size cupcake cakes, that takes about 80 cupcakes, so 2 full sheets, i have done this size before for my sons 5th grade class.you can still make it look elegant but the benefit is no one would have to serve it.

lilscakes, were your cakes 1 or 2 layers? I 'm trying to get as much info as possible before I get asked the questions.

my cakes were about 2 1/2 inches in height. Torted with flavoured creams. You can see them in my photos. They're the ones done for our priest's 20th anniversary celebration. The cakes were cut into 6 x 12 slices (pieces). HTH

Thanks,
With a big cake like this do you use plywood as the base? What do you cover it with? What do you put it in - I don't think I've seen boxes this big and I wouldn't want anything to get on it in transportation.
