I am doing a wedding cake in July that needs to have edible glitter applied to the sides of the cake. I know that I will crush the glitter I currently have into a finer consistency.

Has anyone ever applied it to the sides of a buttercream cake? Is so, what technique did you use? I use a crusting buttercream and always smooth it with parchment paper after it has crusted, if this makes any difference. Should I apply it before the icing has crusted them smooth with my parchment paper?!?!?! Any tips/advice will be appreciated.

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

i read on here the other day that some use a brush/blow technique where they blow the glitter off a brush and it goes on nicely to the cake and i would think that it would work better if the icing wasnt crusted yet so it would have something to grab onto. dont take my word for it tho just taking a wild guess.

If you are talking about the edible cake sparkles, please taste them first. I was about to cover the whole sides of a cake with them until I tasted some and they didn't disolve in my mouth. I felt like I had a mouth full of plastic shavings. NOT something I would want to eat/serve.

Hopefully you are referring to a different kind of glitter, I must mention it because I thought it was going to be such a great idea until I tasted some icon_sad.gif
