Has anyone ever made/used this recipe? I just attempted the 10 egg recipe for the bunny cake in her book Quick and Clever Party Cakes and the batter was so thick I knew before putting it into the oven it wasn't going to work. It's been in there almost an hour and a half and the top is split almost an inch down and it just doesn't look right - still not done! I checked my oven temp with the thermometer to verify that it wasn't running hot. I'll let you know how it turns out but wanted to know if anyone else has ever tried the recipe. Just seemed like way too much flour.

Thanks
Debbie

i tried this recipe once and it took forever to bake and when it finally finished it was dry and very heavy. I didn't like it at all.

Thanks ~ I have the same opinion of it. Very heavy and very dry. I baked it for over an hour and a half before it tested done. I used both a cake tester and a heat sensitive cake tester. What a waste of butter, eggs and flour! That's why I usually use a mix! I guess i'll use a mix and re-make the cake.

I made this cake last year and followed her instructions very well and did all the best preparations. As you says, it is very heavy, in fact, too heavy. It is more like a heavy bread than a cake.
If you want to see the worst version of it, follow her instructions and make the cocconut cake from it.

I use her books for decoration ideas and techniques but definitely not for recipes. I stick to Toba Garett and a few others for recipes.

Good luck!

I've heard nothing but good about Toba's recipes. I'll have to try a few of hers! I won't be trying any more of Lindy Smith's recipes but her books are great for design and instruction.
