I have two little boys that were born 1 year and 9 days apart. They will be 4 and 5 soon. They've both decided on a POKEMON birthday.

I know I will be making a pokeball from wiltons ball pan. I was wondering if anyone has made a pikachu or a charmander out of the 3-d bears?????

I have the large bear and the mini bear. Could anyone offer some help to someone who's trying to avoid fondant??????

TIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I'll take a bite at a suggestion. Apparently nobody has made any pokemon characters out of those 3D pans. Why not put your Pokeball on a sheetcake and draw two of the poke-characters on either side of the ball... one for each child. I have drawn a few pokemon characters on cakes; but never did them in 3D.

I did a pikachu for my son's. I don't have a picture but I took the wondermold pan made a cake and then frosted it yellow. I looked like you were looking at the tummy part of pikachu and up. I used yello pieces of foam for the ears and the tail (I hadn't found this site to see all the cool stuff I could have made it out of). My son loved it. And it was pretty easy to do. Good Luck!!

Well, I was searching through the forums for someone posting a recipe on cake balls and came across this topic. My two little ones are AVID pokemon fans, so of course this sparked my interest. I did FBCT's for my son't bday cake. It turned out really good (yes, I went a bit over board, but, that's just me) You can find pokemon graphics and print them out do do any of the characters in a FBCT (the directions are on this site to do them). The cartoon characters come out really well! I've never tried a 3D one with pokemon. Mainly b/c I just didn't even think to try.

I've done a few Fbct's before, but the largest one cracked on me, and I think I just needed to freeze it longer. I've found one picture I really like, but I'm not that happy with it. I'd like to find more.

I've already went overboard, lol.....the only place I could find pokemon stuff was on ebay, and I've spent over $50 just for party decorations, etc., so I'll probably go overboard with the cake, too....do you have the pokemon cake pics in your photos? I'd love to see them.

Thank you!!!!!! (Have I found another pokemon mom?!?! LOL)

I love your thomas cake, by the way. I'm doing one at the end of april, and they wanted a 3-d one. But, we're traveling 2 hours just to get to their house and I told her I don't recommend a 3-d cake. What are we doing traveling that far?!?! It's my brother in law's family! LOL

Yes, my kids are die hard pokemon fanatics (we have tons of the PVC toys too-they have "battles" constantly! LOL). Another thought is a edible image. If there is somewhere near you that does those.

This is a fun site for pokemon fans (we order all our characters from there too) http://www.pokemon.com/flash.asp

I was trying to figure out where I downloaded all my graphics from, but that was last year and apparently, I didn't bookmark the site. The cake I did is in my photos. It has one large FBCT on the top and 12 on the sides. We are still trying to decide for this year what he wants for his bday (as it's coming up in a few months again).

Ok, one son definitely wants a pikachu cake and the other one wants a charmander cake. I'd like to do something with these so they could have their own seperate cakes. I was wanting to make a pokeboall out of the ball pan.

I was really wanting this to all be in 3-d. Does any one have any suggestion???

Help SheilaF......please!!! lol

Shelia,

your cake was an inspiration cake for my son's pokemon cake last year. I did have some questions for you and couldn't find you in time to do it.

How did you do the transfers without having to do a border around it. I can't seem to do that for the life of me. Are you using less icing. I don't see how you could do that. Please explain.

Thank you!

Tilisha, I believe she made the transfers (on the side) into squares and just blended/smoothed the edges together. The top was a transfer she made into a circle....the size of the cake.

I hope you could understand that explanation.

If you go to the wilton.com forum, her cake is on there and I believe she gave some instructions with it too.

Yes, that is correct. The top is one transfer (including the background). I outlined the cake pan so I knew how big to make it and put that under the wax paper with my drawing. The sides are 12 individual transfers slightly larger than each of the characters. I put the side transfer's on first BTW. They were a royal pain to work with getting them to all adhere, but they did. Then when I was all done, I smoothed the frosting using wax paper (to get that totally smooth finish). Just applying the transfers, blending the edges and then smoothing too several hours (or more). I've discovered the fondant smoother works REALLY well when smoothing frosting with wax paper on it. I know some people also use viva paper towels. I have not been brave enough to try that since what I do works for me.
