My first experience with decorating is the Wilton I class. Of course I got the wilton basic colors. Now I am seeing that there are other brands. What gives the best color? What is the most economical? What about variety of colors?

Thanks

I have only purchased one color of Americolor and I bought it like two days ago so I haven't REAlLY used it........however I find it waaaaay more convenient because it's in a squeeze bottle and I don't have to fumble with toothpicks and worry about contamination, etc.........and I hear that you don't need to use as much coloring to get a TRUE color out of them......especially with red and black, with wilton you have to use almost the whole container of coloring......evidentally with americolor that's not the case

Hands down, without a doubt - Americolor! I love them so much I am buying them a few at a time to replace the Wilton ones that I already have. They are so convenient with the squeeze bottle and you definitely get a better color while using less. thumbs_up.gif

I've used Wilton, Squire's Kitchen and a few others up until a few days ago. Now I have Americolors and I'm never going back to the others - they are fab!

Americolor is the bomb! I have used both americolor and wilton, and I absolutely love the americolor. You can freeze the americolor, and the colors will not run! I have tried to freeze a cake decorated with the wilton colors, and as soon as the cake started to thaw, the color just started to run down the cake. For Valentines Day had had 24 small cakes sold, so I decorated them all a few days before, and just stuck them in the freezer! Not a one I had to fix! Big fan of the americolor!

Hey there!

I just bought like 15 Americolors from this very website, and I am SO excited about it! They are wonderful! Yes, it's great to not mess around with toothpicks, but not only that - the colors are wonderful and I haven't been able to find them anywhere else - like they have a gorgeous mauve, a perfect ivory (Wilton's is too yellowy for me - I like it more subtle), great bright pinks (another one I have a hard time finding - hot pink!) and get this - a true burgundy! If you've ever tried to make burgundy from Wilton's - it normally doesn't get past the deep mauve stage - but the Americolor one actually makes a real burgundy! I'm really psyched about that. And I just had so much fun trying out the different colors. And they're concentrated so they'll last you a lot longer than Wilton.

Anyway, I HIGHLY recommend them - get them now while they're 99 cents - still a great deal even with shipping if you buy enough of them - and you won't be sorry! Enjoy! Have fun!

Not to be the voice of dissention here (I have a few Americolor adn they are definately WAY better than Wilton!) but if you're concerned about fading, Sugarflair colours seem to be the way to go... that's all tey carry (in pastes) at Creative Cutters (which is where I buy most of my cake stuff) and they have some dummy display cakes that they've had for years adn the colour is still great!

I've never heard of that brand! I'll have to check the cake shops around here but I don't believe I've seen them, but I'd love to try them! Thanks!
