I'm giving up for the day!! I have made all my wedding cakes but one. I haven't had any luck getting my 8" cakes to bake!!! I don't know why either!! The 12" & 16" baked fine. I did have to do the 6" over once too but it came out good on the 2nd try. Now I've made the 8" 2 times & failed each time. The first one I baked did turn out good but it was a little unlevel... I tried leveling it & messed it all up. So my son & daughter ate that one. This time when I baked it the center never baked! The top rose, I poked a toothpick in it & it came out clean. The top rose too much so I cut it down. When I did that the center had NEVER rose that's why the toothpick came out clean!!!! It looks like an angel food cake!!!! So I thought I'd put if back in the oven to see if it would bake & rise... NOPE!! It didn't. SO now I'm mad.... & I'm going to lay down for a few hours!! Maybe when I get up I'll be able to finish it. I have the groom's cake to do tomorrow.... I was asked to do this wedding in Jan.... I really didn't know that I'd be sick when it came around to do it!! My luck isn't very lucky today!! thumbsdown.gif

OK... I vented... I hope it's out of me!!!!!! Thanks for listening....

Wow, turtleshell, I sure hope that everything goes better tomorrow. I know how frustrating it is when your cakes don't bake right. When we first moved into this apartment, I wasn't familiar with the oven, so had that to happen a lot. We are going to be moving again in July (getting a house so the kids will have their own yard to play in), so I hope that I don't have to go through the same thing again. Good luck with the cakes.

You know my stove is new... I've only used it once to bake a cake. I guess it could be that I'm not used to it. I just don't get how the larger cakes did fine & the smaller ones didn't. Usually it's the other way around..Go figure...

Like ntertayneme said... tomorrow's a new day! I'll be fine tomorrow.. keep positive, keep positive LOL!!! Thanks gals!

Taking a break sounds like a really good idea, TC!
You've been going at warp speed for several days now, and not feeling well on top of that is enough to throw everything off!

You know you will pull this together and everything will be okay, Just try to ease up on yourself a little!
(You are lucky to have helpers to take up the slack...I have to eat all my mistakes myself, and I have plenty to show for it!) Janice

aww tina! im sorry. i hope that you feel better soon. She is definately right, look at tomorrow as a new day, and start from there. You will wake up feeling a lot better once you get some rest.
Im sure your new stove has a lot to do with it. You will get it perfected in no time icon_smile.gif.
make sure you take pics of the cakes !im sure they will be fabulous!!

Fix yourself a hottie tottie.
some hot tea with lemon juice and honey in it, with a shot of whiskey! that will wipe that bug right out of ya!

Hey Tina, Oh the woes of breaking in a new oven. It took me a while to get the hang of mine few years ago, but I wasn't decorating cakes then. Wish I could run down there and help you out. Hope you're feeling better by now. Will be thinking of you. Take care of yourself!

Better luck tomorrow Tina, I know I have day where I do too much and the last thing I do just won't work. i just have to give up and start over fresh in the morning. It took me a while when i got my new oven too, and everytime I get a new pan it takes me a couple cakes to get the time and everything right. Then i write it down in my book, so I won't forget! I kow it will come out great, and I can't wait to see the pictures.

Hey, Tina. Are you trying to wear yourself out? Take a break, girl! Don't let that cake defeat you. I know that it will be better today. You are putting alot of work in on this cake. So I am sure it will be fine. The new stove may be the trouble. Perhaps it was saying that you and it needed a break icon_smile.gif . I know that you will get this done and that the cake will be FABULOUS!!!!! Take care, hon!

Hey Everyone!!

My, my, my do I have some encouraging friends!!! Thanks so much for the pick me up!! I've finally finished baking all the cakes. EVEN THE 8" one! I did that last. It still took a lot more time to bake then the 16" one!!! Go figure!!

I have crumb coated all the cakes, there sitting on the countertop covered in saran wrap & tinfoil. All the icing is made... I hope I have enough!! Tomorrow I will ice & decorate all the cakes~ Then Saturday is the big day~

I did have a much better day today!! Your right Janice I've been going warp speed!! Finally slowed down!! Being sick did slow me down! I wound up taking a nap so that helped me!

Ok... I feel like I'm babbling!! So tired! I will take pics for sure!!! Thank you all for the encouragement!!! I needed it!!! THANKS!!

Just saw the thread. So glad you got all the cakes baked - even that frustrating 8" one! No idea why it was so difficult, either, but at least it's done! Best of luck with the frosting and decorating today and setting it up on Sat.!! Wish you were near me so you could do my wedding cake! I don't know how I'm going to manage to do my own.. Sigh! Somehow I'll figure it out, I guess! icon_smile.gif

Sending you good vibes!

Best Regards,
~AngelWendy
