Spiderman And Princess Birthday Cake - One Cake?!
Decorating By ncdessertdiva Updated 22 Mar 2006 , 3:41pm by ncdessertdiva
HELP! I've been asked to do a birthday cake for my grandson and another child (girl) with Spiderman and a Princess on the same cake. I need ideas, suggestions on how to accomplish this cake! If I don't do the cake, it will be ordered from Wal-Mart.
My husband suggested Spiderman rescuing the Princess but I'm not sure how to do it.
TIA
Leslie
I need to do a very similiar cake! My nephew and niece (brother/sister) have birthdays a couple of days apart and he wants Spiderman and she wants Snow White. I'm at a loss also. Hope someone has ideas for us!
Wilton has the cake toppers of both Spiderman and the Disney Princess, now I have to figure out how to incorporate them on the top of the cake! You're right, I'm sure we'll get lots of creative ideas from fellow Cake Addicts!

Do a plaque or Buttercream transfer or something of Spiderman swinging down and saving a princess??? Just a thought!
what if you have spiderman slinging webs and the princess with a wand both pointing at the words Happy Birthday and spiderman adds webs to it and the princess adds sparkly glitter or something. Sounds funny but I can visualize it in my head......
Both of those ideas sound great. My husband suggested Spiderman saving the Princess. I've never done a BCT and don't know where to begin . . .
Not sure how I could get the "web effect" and the sparkles but I like it! I, too can visualize in my head. . . can if I could translate to the cake . . .

How much cake do you actually need?
Could you do tiers, seperated by pillars? Make the top tier with a princess on it and the bottom with spiderman on it.
Or you could do a sheet cake and seperate it from the top left corner to the bottom right corner.
I did these two for a birthday on the same day but you might be able to put them together, one on one half and the other on the other half. The spiderman cake is my son's and the princess his best friend. I can't upload pictures but you can see all the ones on my profile and find them there. A princess castle and a spiderman building
You could try a 3D bust cake with the front of the bust being one character and the back of the bust being another. You can find the instructions for a 3D bust cake at the link below if you think it might be something you'd want to try.

Hi, I can't open the link to the instructions. Could someone please copy the instructions and pm them to me. There are a lot of sites, I can't access from China. I would really appreciate the help. Don't ask me why, it just drives crazy
Thanks in advance

I'll post them here.
Making A 3D Bust Cake: Spider-Man
You Will Need:
10 Cups of Red Crusting Buttercream. Leave white if using an airbrush.
2-3 Cups of Black Crusting Buttercream
1/2 Cup of White Crusting Buttercream for Inner Eyes
Parchment, Waxed or Plain Paper
Wooden Dowel (One End Sharpened)
Styrofoam Wig Head
2 10" Round Cakes
1 8" Round Cake Quartered
13x19" Cake Board Doubled and Covered
Viva Paper Towels for Smoothing
Tip #3 for Webbing
Tip #7 or 8 for Eyes/Spider
Step 1
I baked these cakes using 3" pans.
Step 2
Layer 10" cakes. Cut 8" cake in half
and layer halves together. Cut this
in half to make shoulders. Arrange
cake as shown using buttercream to
glue pieces together. Insert
sharpened dowel into wig head.
Insert wig head into the center
of 10" cake.
Step 3
Trim off any sharp edges.
Step 4
Frost everything with buttercream
including the wig head. Let icing
crust and then smooth with Viva
paper towels by gently laying one
on the surface and smoothing with
your hand.
Step 5 (Optional)
If using an airbrush, now is the time
to airbrush him red. Use several light
coats until the desired shade of red
is achieved.
Step 6
Time to give Spidey his webs using
tip #3 and medium-thin consistency
buttercream. Begin at the "nose"
by making a small circle. Working
outward, pipe on the webs as shown.
I made this image B&W so the webs
would be easier to see.
Step 6 Continued
Back
Step 7
Using parchment, waxed or plain paper,
cut out two eyes (use reverse of image
to make other eye). You might have to
resize them depending on the size of
your wig head. Place the templates
onto the head where you would like
them to be. I placed them on either
side of the "nose".
Step 8
Gently rub the eye templates to
leave an imprint in your crusted
buttercream. Carefully remove the
templates. Using tip #7 or 8 and
black buttercream, pipe around
the imprint. Fill in with white
buttercream. Let crust. Gently
smooth eyes with Viva paper
towel.
Finish
Pipe spider onto chest or use a
plastic one from the party supply
store. Serves about 50.
Wow Lisa,
thanks a million. I never thought about using styrofoam for the head. We don't have so many how to's on German sites, ever since I've joined this site, I've learnt so much. I'm noticing how my whole way of thinking is changing. Thanks for your fast response, I really appreciate it a lot. Have a wonderful day, it's into the kitchen for me, 6 cakes to make before Monday.
Best regards
Your Spiderman is awesome, Lisa!! I'm short on time for this cake so I will probably do genean's and redhare's idea of Spiderman slinging webs and Disney Princess sprinkling sparkles on a "Happy Birthday" in the center of the cake. The cake will be a 12x16 sheet cake. mmdd, I like your idea of separating the cake on the diagonal. Not sure of my colors yet . . .I promise to post a picture when complete. Somehow, sometime I need to post all of my pictures . . .
Thanx for everyone's help on this. I'll keep you posted. . .
Leslie
KHalstead, That's what I'm thinking of. . . I'll touch base with my daughter tonight on the particulars.
Thanx,
Leslie
