Hello everyone!

I'm new to the boards and new to the cake world. I have been making cakes for the last few years but only for family. I would really like to learn more so that I can start my own business and bring in some extra cash for my family.

My grandmother made cakes for years. She taught herself and me. I was able to learn from her a little before she died. I would really like to pursue this more and keep up the tradition. I inherieted all of her character and sheet cake pans. (over 100) My cousin got all of her wedding cake supplies. However, I can use these at anytime.

The only BC recipe that I have and use is what my grandmother gave me and the Wilton snow-white buttercream. Is there something out there that is better???

Does anyone know what the recipe is for the BC icing that Sam's Club makes? I had some of that the other day and it was good. It was whipped, thick, and you could not taste the sugar of the crisco in it. It definitely was not a WHIPPED icing that you get at Walmart.
Any ideas! I like the taste of a BC icing but not the crisco aftertaste or the sugar-high that you get from the powdered sugar.

I would appreciate all your help

Thanks! Deone

Catharine, there are a lot of buttercream recipes and recipes that are called buttercream. Dependng on what part of the world you live in, on the West Coast you can get Frostin' or Pastry Pride a lot of people like that. It is ready made and all you do is whip it. I think in the Eat there is something called Rich's Bettercream. Now Wiltons has Crisco in it. I try not use anything with Crisco or shortening. I like the Italian Merigue Buttercream. It is some work though. There are a lot of buttercream recipes on this site and at Baking911. Use the search engine there. That site is pretty invaluable . If you are not familiar with it spend some time searching.
