I'm doing a cake with the scales of justice on it. She wants them to be silver and wants ideas for a colors scheme. I want this to be a very elegant cake. The reception will be at the court house. The judge's son is being sworn in after graduating law school. Help!
I know you can do better but look at this cake with the scales on it!

Thanks, that's the only pic I found too! I just hate when people don't know what they want and want me to come up with something. Then they don't like what i suggest and I think... that's why I asked what colors you want!
Great pic veejay.
Peacock, How about using half of the miniball and cut that half in half to make the bowls of the scale then paint with silver lustre dust. You could carve the main stand out of a sheet cake and assemble the whole thing on top of a larger sheet cake. Kind of elaborate, but I hope it helps

For the color scheme, I think dark blues look good with silver, also black. Maybe you could find out if the law shool he went to had school colors or a motto and include that.
How about a book cake done up like a law book, with the scales on one side and make the colors the classy.... a meduim blue, with the silver the mom wants.
Hey flav,
That sounds awsome, but they want a sheet cake. But I am going to go with the blue and silver. I'm baking now...let you know later how it turns out!
Ok here it is... nice and simple. i wanted to fru-fru it up, but it was for a guy and I kinda liekd it plain. It's too big to attach, it's in the gallery or click on photos under my name.
Thanks you guys, for the writing I used the tip about a lasar level I found here on CC. It worked great!
You did a wonderful job. I loved the scales. How did you use the luster dust? I just ordered that smae exact color. Now that I have actually seen it used, I can't wait to try mine out!!! Did you have to use alot to acheive the color you got? And the fondant was white to begin with? Great job!!
hey tanyascakes, I have used lustre dust diffrent ways, but for this one all I did was use a little paintbrush and dust it on. It didn't take very much to make it shiny. The fondant was tinted to a light grey so that it would look more silver when the dust was applied. I just ordered some more supplies too ... I can't wait for UPS to get here!
