hi! it's me again ;D

i was looking at cookies on the site today and saw some wonderfully crafted examples made by antonia74! these are my favorites:

apart from the cookies being simply gorgeous on their own, i really love the texture that the colored sugar adds to the cookies (chick and pears). does anyone know how to achieve this? i made a few cookies today to try it out, but i didn't make too many so i don't have too much room to make a lot of mistakes icon_sad.gif ...do i just dunk the frosted cookie onto a platefull of colored sugar? any advice would be greatly appreciated icon_wink.gif

thanks everyone!

Darra, absolutely no dunking! You'll have a mess on your hands. You want to ice the cookie first with royal icing while flat. While the royal is still wet sprinkle the sugar on the cookie . When the cookie dries come back with a small brush and brush away the extra sugar crystals. If you like the effect on Antonia's pear you'll need to ice the entire cookie first and let it dry completely. The sugar part of the cookies is a second layer of royal which is then sprinkled with sugar. I to love Antonia's cookies! HTH

I did a cookie bouquet back for halloween, and colored the icing before I realised I needed green to make the stems of my pumpkins. So I brushed the cookie with pipping gel and sprinkled on the suger cystrals. It stuck great and didn't desolve the crystals. I've also seen it done on royal icing with good results.

I've "slightly" brushed my cookie with vanilla or a merigue pwd and water mixture to adhere sparkles. then brush away any extra that may fall on the cookie. It worked very well.

I love yo work with sanding sugar on my cookies. The sugar comes in so many beautiful colors and I think it just makes the cookies look extra special. When I cover the whole design in sanding sugar. I flood with royal icing and then sprinkle on the sanding sugar. It really cuts down on the drying time as the sanding sugar really sets the royal up quickly and I can really start to bag them much sooner .
