I have a bride that wants to have monograms of their intials on a cake, Where do I find letters to do this? Should the Monograms be in Royal icing. Or can a buttercream work as well on the sides?

I like the look of the monograms in royal icing or gumpaste. You can print off letters from fonts on your computer or on sites that do invitations, cake toppers, etc.

Trace & fill the letters in royal icing and make sure to do a few in case of breakage.

If the letters are going on the flat side of a square cake, just let them dry on a regular flat surface....BUT, if they are going on a curved round cake, you should dry them on a curved surface like the outside or inside of a cake pan. They will fit on your cake much better as you assemble. thumbs_up.gif

great tip on the round cakes! I would have not thought of that and then been freaking out when I tried to put the monogram on!
Thanks ....I have a cake in June that requires a monogram, thankfully it's a square cake.
I was thinking on doing it in fondant, not gumpaste....have you done that?

Not yet! I never have the time or foresight to plan the decor that far ahead (i.e. way more drying time than gumpaste!)

This is from the girl who's STILL up at 3:50am doing wretched wedding cake sketches and invoices!!! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

I did this cake using a candy mold and candy melts...I dusted them with pearl dust.

I have a customer also interested in a monogram for her wedding cake. My question is what initials do you use. I'm assuming the largest one in the center will be for the last name, but the other two on either side, is that the first initial of the bride and groom? Just want to make sure I have it right. Thanks.

The center letter is the first letter of the last name. The letter to the left is the first initial of the brides first name. The letter to the right is the first initial of the grooms first name.

What size do you all feel is right for the letters. 2" or ? Just curious. Should the center one be a littler larger??

You can also do the first letter of the last name in the middle with the grooms first name letter smaller on the left and the brides maiden name first letter smaller on the right.
Got ya all confused?
