I need help on pricing. I am doing an 8 inch layer cake. I am trying the explosion chocolate cake with a hazelnut mousse and a chocolate frosting. I am charging $25 for the cake but with all the chocolate and heavy cream I'm using I'm barely making anything on this cake. Any suggestions on pricing?

Thanks,

Rachel

In order to figure out how much, I use my cost for the cake, icing and any other extras (boards, dowels, box, etc) x 2. If the cake is very detailed, you may want to look at charging more for your time. I think alot of factors can affect your price, tho. You don't want to price yourself out of range, but you should charge more than a supermarket for your cake. I am an inexperienced decorator, so I may not ask as much for a cake as a decorator with more experience. Cali4dawn also has a wonderful price matrix. You may want to do a search on that or pm her.

depending on the time and detail you might want to go 3x the cost. on dawns matrix one of her price calcualtions uses 3x. I am really bad about underpricing, but I have to learn to value what I do more and be willing to put a pricetag on my time and ability.
