Hi...what does everyone charge for a 3-inch cookie, iced in royal, monogrammed with beading around it?

I told a person 3.00/cookie, and she felt that was too much. I just figured It would have to be worth my while to do 6 dozen of them.

What do you charge for your highly decorated cookies?

Thanks!
Ellen

Yours is a more than fair price for all the work involved.

People do not understand how much work goes into decorating a cookie-it's only a cookie!!!!!!! 3.00 is more than fair.
Check out this website-their cookies are 6.25 each!

I agree that that is definitely a fair price. Sometimes things that appear "smaller" take much more time. On many wedding favor sites, decorated cookies are $5, $6, or more each.

I typically charge $1 per inch. Just steer that woman to a bakery and she'll see she's getting a bargain!

Where I live I charge $2.50 for a 3" cookie. I would charge $3.50 for a 4" cookie. Most of the websites mentioned above usually make 4" cookies, albeit their prices are still ridiculous.

If you think about it though, 6 dozen cookies is a very large order that's over $200 for cookies. Depending on how much they are spending on the cake, that might bust their budget.

How about a plain cookie, with the monogram by itself? Still elegent, but not nearly as much work and time involved. You can even paint the monogram with luster dust. Just a thought...

I guess the part about it that steered me into the price was the amount of time and effort it would have taken this week. It was a last minute request, and I already have an enormously busy schedule. It had to be really worth it. If I were to charge 1.00/cookie, I might as well work for minimum wage, because that is what it would average. NOnetheless, the price is still lower than the cookies by design price. They charge around 4 or 5 dollars a cookie. I am more a cake person than a cookie person anyway. I don't do cookies for this exact reason. I know that people won't pay you for the amount of work that goes into it to make the cookies look right.

Ellen, girl, I am right there with ya!!! I feel your pain! People don't want to pay that, so I don't advertise them as much. The flower cookies I just posted I charged $1.75 each and she ordered 40, so that was $70 just in cookies, not to mention the horsey cake. Customers don't realize how much work and time goes into cookies - they just like the end results!!! icon_smile.gif

If she is wary of the price you gave her, why don't you let her have an alternative cost-saving/less labour-intensive design for the monograms....like Martha Stewart does here:

Helen, how exactly is that monogram done? I'm terrible at doing letters, mine look like my 6-yr old did them. Is it freehand?
I just love your cookies - you're so great at them. Hope you can advise.
