Please do not look at the other posters and just answer very honestly and brutally. I made this out of gumpaste. So far, 4 people here have seen it, 2 were amazed thought it was so cool and perfect, 2 had NO IDEA what they were looking at. You don't have to ponder it forever, just look and tell me if you get it or not. I can make the cake without the topper if I need to.

looks like a baby popping out of a mommy's belly (variation on the popping out of a cake motif)

I'm sorry, but it confuses me. to me, it looks like a baby exploding out of someones body laying on ruffles. I haven't tried to make people with gumpaste yet so I'm not a good judge on making something other than flowers.

Sorry - I totally didn't get it until I really, really pondered it for a while. I thought the pink part looked like a dog bone, but I knew THAT didn't make sense! It's very, very cute, though.

Looks like a baby girl pocking out of mom's belly. I would suggest adding straps to the top of the dress maybe that would make it easier to figure out a point of reference.

I too though it was a dog bone at first but then I steped back and the and saw the top and bottom of the mom!

It looks really cool, that is a great idea and really cute.
Great work.

Good Luck

It's a baby coming out of a momy's belly. The figures are made well, but sorry it kind of reminds me of Alien.
Maybe just take the baby out of the belly and finish the bottom and put that on top of the cake. That would be cuter.

self serve c-section. Not really, it's a baby that made it's way out of it's poor headless momma. I'm thinking something tragic happened to her since it has black roses.
Pretty cool idea and well done actually, I'm just being morbid and trying to see something I'm not supposed to be seeing in this. You did a good job on this, honest.

To be honest - if this is supposed to be a baby bursting from a mother's belly, it is quite disturbing and if it's for a mother to be, you might want to rethink it. Many of us can attest to having nightmares about this sort of thing icon_eek.gif

I will say this though - your figure sculpture is very good and I do love the baby, you might consider having the baby bursting from the top of the cake instead. Just a thought!

I didn't look at the other post.

It looks like a baby girl named Brooke popping out of her Mother's stomach.

Strange.

LOL icon_lol.gif

I just read the other post. I laughed my butt off (don't I wish).

My first thought was it looked like a dog bone.

Then when I figured it out as the Mother I thought where is her arms and legs.

Then I thought of the movie Alien.

Sorry, I hope you don't take offense. It's hard to know if you should be honest or not.

You know, the more I look at this the more I like it. I'm so sorry if I'm seeing this wrong, but I have a goofy sence of humor and I would love to do something funky and fun like this instead of the traditional cutsie cakes for baby showers. Is this for a baby shower?
Tell us the mystery of this.
Again, I like it, I also threatened to give myself a c-section many times towards the end.lol

It was pretty funny reading everyones posts icon_lol.gif ! We should play this more often icon_smile.gif

It is indeed a baby popping out of a mommy's belly. I made a marquis kind of sign that would stick above her that says " Early Debut *starring* BROOKE"

It is for a mommy, but no longer to be, the baby arrived quite prematurely and the theme of the shower was changed a bit. It was the "mod mom" theme, but we thought since she wasn't pregnant, it was kind of silly. So sticking with the pregnant belly, the baby is emerging. Though it wasn't by c-section so I don't know if that will confuse people.

Doug hit the nail on the head for what I was going for, bursting out of the belly like out of a cake.

It's a topper on a 6" round and can totally be removed and not eaten, I'm not a fan at all of big baby or belly cakes for that reason. I do like the idea of the straps at the top to define the dress a bit more. Should I make the dress longer to conceal the amuputee-ish legs? I didn't want to do the whole mom because then it may be more critical of it not looking like her in some way or another, know what I mean?

Thank you so much for all of your opinions!!!

ETA: The black roses are because it's a purple and black theme, trying to break away from traditional baby shower, those were the colors to be used for the mod mom theme as well. Here's a picture of the cake not done yet. I have to make a LOT more of those roses, add the marquis, and make a congratulations sign for the mommy as well.

dear god, please tell me the mother didnt die (black roses...) and the baby was born via c section, then entered a pageant? i say this half jokingly, only because i did what you said and didnt read the other posts, only let my mind run wild since that is what is seems you suggested. i am sure i would have thought something totally normal otherwise. i am kind of laughing out loud because i know when i go back and re read this, my answer will sound totally stupid .... (sorry icon_redface.gif )

ok, now i want to see the finished cake and find out what your intentions were! icon_wink.gif
