I recently made a batch of SC and used a color flow icing which came out great - I was looking for an icing that hardens and has a bit of a sheen. Now, I havnet found that any of you "pro's" are using this. what icing is everyone else using? Anyone tried the color flow to RI - do you find that it makes a difference?

ANY advise is appreciated ....

I just used RI with a bit of Karo Syrup. You can see in my gallery that they turn out pretty nice and shiny. Good Luck!

I use RI but I believe that Toba Garretts glaze is like RI but dries with a nice sheen. The recipe is in the recipe section. HTH

I have found that with royal icing, you only get a matte finish if you beat it for the full time. This might depend on what type of mixer you use, but I have a kitchenaid stand mixer, and in order to get rid of the sheen from the egg whites, it takes almost 12 minutes. I just suggest not beating the icing as long, and thin it to the point where it works almost like color flow. You can then glaze the cookies freehand, or pipe them with a bag. All you need to do to thicken it to pipe your detail is just add a small amount of the non-thinned RI that you made in the first batch. I then keep my colored prepared RI in airtight containers, and they are ready for the next time around, should you have any left over. Just be sure to beat it again before using. Hope this works out for you! icon_smile.gif
