Hi,I need to know how I can color my checker board cake black,would just adding black foodcoloring be ok??Thanks! icon_biggrin.gif

I think that adding black gel coloring would work - I love Americolor Super Black. It would probably be easiest if you started with chocolate cake. Be sure to post a picture when you are done! I think chocolate tinted black + white cake would look great!! Or even black with pink... What do you have in mind?

Its always easiest to make black by starting with chocolate icing first and tinting that black you'll use less colouring that way or you can start with white buttecream and add enough black colour so that it looks like a dark grey and leave it overnight and the next day it will darken to black. This has always worked for me using wilton icing colours (no americolor thumbsdown.gif where i live).

DutchDarlene - I guess we are confused. Do you want to color your icing or the actual cake batter black?

I think black gel color would work for either. My vote is still for Americolor Super Black.

This works for me. I use Wilton Juniper green and get it as green as possble and then add Wilton black.
