Please help... I am making a magic hat with a rabbit coming out the top. I saw a few pictures in the gallery. To make the rim of the hat, they stated they covered a cake board with fondant. I just need to know how do I cover a cake board with fondant? icon_confused.gif

brush your board with a little water. Roll the fondant out . place over the board and smooth as you would for a normal cake. Trim the edges with a small sharp knife

If it starts to pull up on you, you can glue it with some piping gel

I don't even do that. I just roll out the fondant, put it on the board, use a pizza cutter to trim around the edge, and then glue a ribbon around the edge of the board. Haven't had any trouble yet (knock on wood!).

If you want the fondant to cover the entire board and the edge, you roll out the fondant to about 1/4 of an inch, place this over your cake board, smooth it with plastic or wooden smoothers and cut it a little larger than the board edge then gently ease it around the edge so that the sides are covered too. To finish you need to cut th fondant from underneath using a sharp knife or pizza cutter is you don't have a tool specifically for trimming the fondant, which is what I use.

This will give you a really great finish for a hat brim, but just cutting it off as normal and using double sided tape to attach a ribbon the same colour would be fine too, it depends on what look you're after.

I hope I didn't confuse you, because I think I confused myself icon_smile.gif
