I just made one of these last week and it was too much fun.

You can use the sports ball pan or the wonder mold, there are lovey samples on site of both.
I'll only talk about the ball pan cause that's what I used. icon_smile.gif

A couple of days before, make at spout and handle. I used fondant. Stick a couple of toothpicks in them so they can be attached to the cake later. It you are worried about getting the angles right you can do what I did and kind of shape them to the pan from which you will be making the cake. I've seen tea pots with sugar cookies for the handle and spout and one person even use an ice cream cone for the spout. VEry Clever these decorators.

Level the halves, cut the bottom off of one cake (this will make it sit nicely on your board.) while you have it upside down, begin to ice it from the bottom on the pot about half way up. Make it smooth as you can cause once you flip it over it it difficult to get under that curve.

Now flip that cake over onto your board. Thin ice the center of the cake, just so they will stick together since too much filling causes bulging (sp?) with this kind of pan. Ice a bit more of the cake and smooth as you go. When you get almost to the middle of the ball. Put the other cake on top. Now you can ice the rest of the ball. Let it crust and use the viva method of smoothing.
Press a bowl or a large cup in to the top to give you a pattern for the lid. I piped dots to make a circle around the top simulating the lid.

Push the toothpicks into the sides to attach you handle and spout.
To hide the gaps, I piped dots around these.

Now get creative and fancy up your tea pot.

I hope this makes sense, if not pm me and I'll try to clear it up\\

Don't for get to post pictures.
Someday I'll have to learn how to do that...

Hi mobebosu, my "subject" line didn't come out and it said "ditto what mommachris said" on how to make the cake. I used the sport ball pan and just baked a boxed cake mix. I baked it at lower temp than it said and made sure I didn't fill it more than 2/3 full so it wouldn't spill out while baking. When I took cake out of pan, I cooled on the rounded edge (if I recall) and cut the humps after cooled so that when you put both together it'll match up. I also cut a tiny bit off the bottom of one of the rounded parts so that it sat on my cake circle without rolling away. I also used some icing as "glue" on the cake board to keep it there. I made the mmf and put that on top then made the spout, lid and handle and stuck icing behind the handle and spout to make it stay and then propped it against something till it was totally dry to keep it from falling off. I also stuck some toothpicks. Make sure you tell the person there are so many toothpicks so they know to look for it when they are eating the cake. I think that's about it.

HI there, I make them all the time and ice them in buttercream. They are not real difficult to do. I can give you the directions for the one I made, it is about like the ones posted here. There are only 4 toothpicks in the ones I make (one at each end of the handle and 2 in the spout) Here are different views of it.
