I have a possible order. The woman would like a curious george cake to reflect this style.Except she doesn't want the extra cupcakes, dolls, etc. She wants a 8 inch{2 layer} and a 12 inch{2 layer} cake stacked done with buttercream and fondant decorations. I assume bananas, yellow hat and possibly a small curious george out of fondant. She also wants 2 small cakes for the birthday twins. I was thinking possibly just a 6 inch{1 layer} done with a curious george buttercream transfer. I came up with $60 for the stacked cake and $20 for both the two smaller cakes. Does this sound like too much, or not enough? She needs enough cake for 60 people.

I personally would charge around $80 for the 2-tiered cake, and $20 for both smaller cakes. Or you can charge $100 and tell her you'll throw in the smash cakes for free! Everyone likes to hear the word "FREE" icon_biggrin.gif

Free, that's funny!! The picture isn't mine, the woman who emailed me came up with it. I'm not sure where she got it.

BEST MOVIE EVER! It is now my husband's favorite too! Since it came out a week and half ago on video, I've seen it 6 times (plus the one time I saw it at the theater)! Had to watch it with the closed captioning to make sure that I wasn't missing anything and then with the director's commentary too!

I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT!

Glad you could tell what my avatar was, I was afraid it was too small!

I make cakes for a caterer, and I got $35 for a double layer white cake to serve 16 people, with very simple decoration (the pink birthday cake in my photos that says "happy birthday debbie" on it). Fondant always costs me more in supplies and time, so the price would reflect that. With $60 that comes out to only $1 a serving for a stacked 8 inch and 12 inch cake with fondant decorations. Even at $1.50 a serving you're at least getting $90, for the stacked cake alone. You'll still have to decorate two full cakes, and then two smaller ones. I think you could defintely get more then just $60. I am making a cake for a bachelorette party on the 25th for 15 people, and its going to be sculpted from a 9 x 13 white cake with strawberry buttercream filling, covered in fondant with an "extra" something (I can't say what...its for a bachelorette party you know icon_lol.gif ) and I'm charging $53. I guess it would also depend on your area and how much your supplies are costing. I wouldn't sell yourself short, stacked cakes require more care then just a normal layer cake.

Have you worked out how much in supplies and ingredients that it would cost to make it?

No I haven't added up supplies. I just kind of have a ballpark I base my cakes on. The last 2 I've sold I undercharged on. I guess I need to figure it up and multiply by the standard 3 times. I'm just like everyone else, I don't want to charge too much. But in doing that I short change myself. Thanks for everyones input.
