Yesterday, I made my first person out of fondant. It is a boy golfing. My problem is that I did not think about how I am going to get him to stand on the cake without falling over? I need him to be standing up because he is swinging a golf club, what do I do??
I wonder if you could use one of Wilton's cookie sticks to prop him up? I've used these on different occasions to hold things vertical on a cake. Maybe someone else has an idea.
I had the same idea ... maybe toothpicks ??? they could be inserted into the legs and they wouldn't show
How about a little royal icing just for insurance? If toothpicks are too flimsy try skewers. HTH!

Yep, that's what I do.. I stick sucker sticks or sometimes dowels on the back and then insert the dowl or stick into the cake so that they are left standing.
I did this too! I made an ice skater and he just fell over because he was too top heavy. So I laid him down as if he were making snow angels and made another ice skater with pieces of spaghetti going through her legs about 2 inches down into the cake. Worked like a charm.
The cake is in my photos.....the figures are crude but hey, it was the first time I'd made them and only my second cake .
I stick bamboo skewers in my figures. I try to put the skewer in as far as I can get it and I usually leave more than the height of the figure to stick in the cake. I've never had one fall yet! Hurray!
