I will be making a 1/2 sheet cake with thomas on it soon and the mother told me that she'd like to have railroad tracks around the bottom.

I had already thought of this, but hadn't quite figured out how to do it. (And, NOW I have to, lol).

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions on doing this? I'd like it to be really neat & special...as the birthday boy is my nephew.

Thanks!!

Depending on how big you want the tracks, I would probably cut them out of fondant. Two LONG strips of grey for the 'tracks' - you could even paint them with silver lustre dust, and then lots of short brown ones for the ties - use a wood impression mat if you have one. Lay the ties down first, then the silver strips on top, like a real track.
