This was my second attempt at a wedding cake. My cousin begged me to do her cake even though I told her it would give me a heart attack. Of couse I did it anyway. It was in the middle of July the frosting was melting off the cake as I was frosting it. I did not have much experience with leveling cakes so by the picture it kinda tilted. Still no huge problem, I drove the peices to the reception hall opened the trunk and what happens?? The bottom layer slide off center enough to take the whole bottom border off on one side. Ok we're still doing good as I brought my repair kit. Everything is still under control. I have my 11yr old with me for help (not the smartest thing, however better than nothing). I got all the pieces in and put everything together and OMG it's TOTALLY icon_eek.gif slanted. I grabbed the DJ's wife (whom I never met) and said "Is the cake unlevel or is it just me, and please tell me the truth" She looks at me and was like yea!! It's totally unlevel. icon_redface.gif Luckily I had done all of the flowers for the wedding as well as the cake, and had made two extra table arrangements which I had with me and was able to tear one of them apart and stuck flowers all around it and made it look better!!! My family was so in awe that they didn't notice the slight slant. (without the flowers it was VERY noticeable) Boy someone was there with me that day!! Sorry so long, but whew! what a day. If I didn't have to go to work right after, the cocktails would defiently have been great after all that!!! icon_lol.gif

You would never know by the pic...it looks great1 2 1/2 years ago power went out across southern Ontario (where I am) and I had a wedding cake due the next day. Had flowers made and the cakes baked. We had to drive "across the border" to Hull, Quebec so I could finish the icing. I iced the cakes by candlelight at midnight, after almost running out of gas on the way home (we lived 45 minutes away from our friends house.) When I got there power had come on for awhile...and everything was okay, except they didn't tell me the cake topper was a heavy ceramic one...I put it on top, and it fell down the side...luckily the chefs were there and had a whole little cake dec set (which I got to keep). I was so glad to get into the car and drive away. icon_smile.gif

Thank you all for the great compliments. It feels great to know that I'm not alone. Let's face it, if you don't love this work, NOBODY understands. My boyfriend laughed at me because for my birthday I want to certain Wilton pans. :0)

Suela, did you want a big fat alcoholic drink after that? Or in our case a big fat piece of chocolate cake??? I'm glad things worked out for you too!!
