I just love the quilting technique that I've seen on some of your cakes. Are there directions on this site? Can't find a thing but if you would please point that out to me or send a link to some other site, would appreciate it!

TIA!

I'm pretty sure that is done with a roller ... let's wait and see what the experts have to say ..

Hi Samsgranny,

There are a couple of different ways you can do the quilting technique. The easiest way is to use a diamond impression matt. You can get them from several online stores or a specialty shop if you have one close by. I know I saw one here: www.cakesbysam.com. If you have a steady hand and are good at doing things by looking at them, you could use a ruler or icing spatula and mark it yourself.

Hope this helps you out!

I had no idea there was such a thing as an impression mat! I always did that stuff by hand. I need those mats, talk about a time-saver!

I use the impression mat too. Earleene Moore has them. There is a specifac way that you have to place them on the cake to have them matched up. but Earlene probably has the instruction on her site. She is also good about answering her emails if you need help. Fearlessbaker

Great idea about the ruler, will give that a try. Checked out Sam's website but did not see any quilting but will go back when I have more time to do a thorough search.

Thanks!

Ooops, sorry about that!! I forgot to specify that it's called a diamond impression mat. Check this link.

I use one of those metal triangle things from the hardware store and a ruler. The mat would be much easier, just didn't have one at the time!

I live in Canada & even though the price of the mat isn't much the shipping costs more than I am willing to pay since this is just a hobby for me ---- so I made my own! I used silicone & traced the diamond pattern onto a piece of stencil plastic (not sure that's what it's called but it's a blank piece of flexible material sold in with all the other stencil itmes for you to create your own stencil with). I think it works pretty well - but since I don't do this for a living mine don't have to be perfect!
