I am making a langerie cake this weekend and want the fondant to look like satin. I have seen pictures where the fondant looks like this. How is this done? I have access to Wilton's Shimmer Dust and cake sparkles. Can I use one of these, or am I just SOL.

I would still like to know how to do this for future reference.

Thanks

Try mixing the shimmer dusts with clear vanilla or vodka. Sample on a small piece of fondant.

I would think though that lustre dusts would work better, but in a pinch the shimmer dusts might work. Even "painting" the fondant with vanilla, makes it shiny.

Hi there!

Is there any way to get ahold of lustre dust? I have the shimmer dusts and cake sparkles from Wilton and unfortunately this will not give you the effect of satin, only the lustre dusts can truly do that. You don't need any big fancy ones, if you can get Super Pearl of Antique Silk you can make any colour of fondant shine quite nicely.

Oh Man! I thought that was the case. I used the Shimmer Dust on a dolphin I wanted to shimmer and I didn't like the effect. The shimmer dust has too big of a grain to work properly. My only option is a Hobby lobby and they don't have any. I will just have to order some of the internet for next time. Thanks for the help.
