What a week! I had a Bat Mitzvah cake due this weekend. Choc. base, vanilla jellyroll scrolls, homemade fresh strawberry filling, and fondant covered with lavender roses. I went to put the lavender roses on the cake to find they had turned a green grey. Redid them on the fly Friday night, but still looking good. I am doing the final assembly (attaching the scrolls with doweling when my thumb slips and lands in the middle of the cake. I quickly repaired the damage and had to draw and cut some Star of Davids to cover the repair and regain the symmetry. Unfortunately I was late to the delivery by about 40 minutes, but the waite staff was still setting up the room.

Here's the deal...the mother did not want to discuss price before (we have children in the same school/class) she said to send her a bill. I was planning on charging her $350 for the cake. Do I need to adjust the bill? BTW I did not talk to her, but the coordinator said she was very upset because the cake was not there. I did not tell her about the mishap.

Thanks,
Junebuggey

I would post a picture, but my camera malfunctioned and when I got home the shots were not there!

I don't think you need to adjust the price if the cake got there before the event started.

I don't think you need to reduce the price because of the near mishap, but is it very risky to deliver a cake and not discuss the price and get a deposit. $350 is a lot of money. Unless you have baked for her before, I will guess she has no idea it would cost that much.

If you are lucky, she will pay you promptly.

I agree with the previous posts. You did your part of the deal ~ you delivered a beautiful cake for a special occasion. I would not alter your price at all. So, what did you learn from this incident...?

Just wanted to let you all know the bill was paid, in full, in less than 24 hours. They were very pleased with the cake and will be sharing pictures when they get them back.

Thanks for the support!
