Did anyone watch Sugar Rush tongiht?? Did you see the sugar boxes that were made? How do they do that? Do you think it is like the Wilton Sugar Eggs? I have that kit. I know you have to mold the sugar to make the boxes, but I wonder why kind of mold she is using. And for the lids she said it was a rolled sugar, she wouldn't say what kind, but it dries hard and looked pretty durable. Then she decorated the lids with Royal icing and tied a ribbon around the whole box. She makes these as wedding favors. I want to make them for easter. If you saw the show and have any ideas let me know!
Thanks!!!
i think you are right. It looked like it was molded sugar and the lids most likely fondant or sugarpaste that was let to dry then decorated with royal icing. I want to try to make them too.
I found her website and she has some boxes pictured http://www.gailwatsoncake.com
I think wilton has some of the round ones in their recent yearbook, I think they are round though. But the instructions for them are in there.
Maybe this link will work!
Okay so we have the start of a plan to make these. But I do have a question - what is the differance between fondant and sugarpaste?
Thanks for the help.
sugarpaste has gumtex and a lot of time a chemical cmc that helps it dry out to keep its shape. fondant stays soft enough to cut w/a knife. sugarpaste is good for flowers or other decorative touches.
i made some about 4 years ago for a bridal shower. they were very easy to make, just messy! the "recipe" is pretty easy, just sugar, water and coloring (optional). it's in the wilton yearbook.
What year are you talking about when you said it was in the Wilton Yearbook. It isn't in the 2005, I have gone through the recipes and they don't have one. They do have a "Chocolate Box" in the wedding section. However that is not what we are talking about. This is like the sugar eggs with the center scooped out. And then filled, like on the show they used coated almonds.
I haven't made boxes but I do make molded sugar skulls for El Dia de Los Muertos.
The recipe is 1 teaspoon meringue powder per cup of granulated sugar. If you want to color them you add the color to the water. The amount of water is not exact but you don't need to use much. Just add water to the granulated sugar/meringue powder mixture a little at a time and mix just until it feels like wet sand. It's ready to mold if it clumps together in 1 piece when you can grab a handful of the mixture and squeeze it in your hand. If it's too wet it will stick to your mold.
