Hello everyone!

I'm looking for recipe recommendations because there are so many to choose from in the recipe section!

I need a really good, rich, dark chocolate cake recipe, as well as a good spice cake recipe.

I've never made spice cake before -- is it possible to do a 1/2 sheet in spice cake? I'll use cream cheese icing with that cake.

Also, I've been using chocolate cake mixes, but I've never found one that really seems great. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Sammy

Everyone raves about the Chocolate Cake recipe on the back of the Hershey's cocoa can. I have not tried it. I use mixes and either doctor them or use an extender. To doctor with cake mix (no pudding in the mix, such as Duncan Hines), add a box of chocolate pudding, 4 eggs, 1 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of oil. It really enhances the cake mix. If you want to do the extender (which makes your cake mix go farther)...

The one I use was posted by Sherri:

Duncan Hines Devil's Food cake mix
1 cup unsifted cake flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 4-serving box chocolate pudding
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup oil
1 1/3 cups water (I use part milk)
4 whole eggs
1 cup plus 1 Tbsp sour cream
1 heaping tablespoon Cocoa

Add all ingredients to mixing bowl. Mix for 2-3 mins.
Scrape bowl and remix briefly.
Bake in 325 degree oven in greased and floured pan.

**Sherri's original post was for a French Vanilla Cake, but I modified it for chocolate cake. I think it is really good, very moist but has a very nice crumb.

Hope this helps.

Cindy
