I have been asked to do a cupcake wedding cake. First time for me. Any suggestions on how to price it? Is one serving one cupcake? How much does everyone charge per serving?

One cupcake is one serving and I charge my wedding cake serving price and any additional decorations gumpaste and what not would be in addition just like any other wedding.

It's a wedding serving, either way, so I charge my wedding serving price.

They don't have to like it. I don't have to DO it either--I don't want to get into cupcake cakes anyway...I quoted two a week ago and neither have called back, thank goodness. LOL

i too live in the discount chain bakery (i use that term very loosely) world. people want walmart prices but quality of higher priced cakes. i find that people expect cupcakes to be even cheaper. the wedding part of my business has suddenly boomed and im a little overwhelmed because i know im not charging enough. i love doing this and feel guilty if i charge "too much" for example i just received and order for 300 cupcakes each with a monogramed letter on fondant over buttercream. ive come up with $1.30 each but totaled up that sounds high to me. opinions anyone? everyone says to charge the same as a wedding serving but im not even sure of a starting point with that either. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Our cupcakes are $2.75 each, or $30 a dozen. If you want them filled, that's a quarter more, if you want fancy little decos thats at least another quarter more.

I do charge less for cupcakes because I can have my $7.50 an hour assistants decorate them and they look great, versus a wedding cake which I have to do or one of my $16 hour pastry chefs.

I charge wedding serving price too. I'd much rather do a cake verses those cuppies and then having to transport them all - what a pain.

I may be a little different - since I'm a cupcake SHOP. I charge the same price for weddings as I charge for anything else. My cupcakes (filled) are $33/dozen. Special decoration, etc. starts at $.50 per cupcake. I also do side cakes (cutting cakes, groom cakes, etc.).

No charge for delivery/set up within a certain distance.

I too love what I do. Cupcakes are a ton of work. It wouldn't be fair to ME if I didn't make money on them.

I guess I am in the minority, but I love doing cupcakes for weddings. I can bake them fast and I can decorate them fast -- there is so much less time involved on my part (if we are talking "basic cupcakes"). I charge my regular cupcake price -- there are additional charges for fillings, extra decorations, etc. I also charge for the stand/tree rental and charge for delivery/set up (which is typically included in my wedding cake price). My profit is much higher on a wedding cupcake order versus a regular weddign cake when I figure my time into the mix!!

I did the mini cupcakes in my pictures, covered with fondant and a fondant "duff" rose for $2 each cupcake. This was my first wedding that I did and perhaps I undercharged.... HTH

I have been charging a little less because cupcakes are not as much of a headache for me and I like to do them. But one I did about 3 weeks ago had little fondant butterflies on each one. Took me 4 hours JUST for the butterflies at which point I think I should have charged my regular price. Ya' live and learn.

A lot of folks don't want to pay for cupcakes though. Even the "high end CIA graduate" here locally with her cake shop charges less than I do but she does a lot of add ons where I have one inclusive price. I think she is around $1, $1.50 each.

We love cupcakes! at .14 a piece for ingredients! I also sell cupcakes from $2.00 to $2.75 a piece. I charge list price, and give a .25 per cupcake for orders over $150.00. Extra for any decoration.

I don't have to individually decorate 100 servings on a 100 serving wedding cake. Cupcakes.....

Many businesses related to weddings ridiculously overcharge people when they realize its for a wedding. . .

such as, trying to book a site for a 'special occasion' with the same number of people, will usually cost less than if you tell them its for a wedding.

I really think its just businesses taking advantage of brides and grooms, which is sad.

Whether for a wedding or not, if its the same number and same labor, I don't think you should tack on charges just because its a wedding.

With cupcakes, I would charge the correct amount for the number of cupcakes, extra labor, delivery charges, etc. If they mentioned the word wedding, I wouldn't pull up a number in my head just because I think its going to be a pain or because I want to avoid them.
By giving out a false estimate, it could come back to hurt you. Say they mentioned to another person they know that you are way expensive because you lied about your price.
And ultimately, its driving your customers away, when being in this industry, you need the customers as much as they need you. Its a balance of supply and demand, pretty much.

At least, that's what I think about it. No offense to anyone on how they run their own business.

My wedding cupcake pricing is the same as my wedding cake pricing but it comes in a pkg deal $5.50 per serving but includes the use of the stand with a deposit a 6" top cake and setup. 100 cupcakes $550. I tried differnt ways and this seems to work the best.
