using store bought frosting, like pillsbury. i've been using long spatula and dip it in water to try to smooth out, it helps a little, but i always seem to get the creases from where i start. any suggestions? Also is sweet cream butter salted or not salted. thank you.

I actually have boxes of unsalted sweet cream butter and boxes of salted sweet cream butter. So, it can be either.

I think it is going to be darn near impossible to really get a perfectly smooth cake with canned icing because it doesn't crust. As far as the butter goes, the salted kind usually doesn't say anything but sweet cream, but the unsalted always says "unsalted" on the outside of the package.

ty. i've made butter cream frosting several times but family and i just dont like it (if i do make it, it's just for bordering), so i stick w/the store bought.
okay, because i went looking for salted butter today, and Darigold had unsalted and sweet cream (wasnt sure if sweet cream was salted), so i just bought the tilamook salted.

thanks again.

When I cannot tell by the labeling, I check the list of ingredients for salt.
