I made some 3mm fondant pearls and it took forever to do just over 100. And it doesn't even look close to 100. Probably because they are so small. Does anyone have a way to speed up this process?? Or what do you do to get the edible pearls?

Yep. Go to earlenescakes.com and order her premade pearls. icon_wink.gif

They do take a long time. I don't have any answers besides the above.

Susan,
what are you using them for??
Is it something like on this cake?? Have a look at the tiny birthday cake on top of the table, it has a pearl border, i used a special tool for it, if that's what you're after, let me know and i will send you a link to where you can find it.

I know there is a press that you can make a row of pearls about 6 inches long each. I don't have the manufacturer's name though. I did see them on either sugarcraft.com or creativecutters.com or maybe sugarpaste.com. Sorry not much help. I do know a lady that had her mother making them while they would be siitting around!! And she uses a lot of them.

I was just wanting to have some to decorate my cake dummies when they get here. I want to make weddding cakes to take pictures of. I have the pearl bead maker (haven't tried it yet) but I wanted to get an impression mat and put pearls in the criss crosses. I don't know... I'm just wanting to make something SPECTACULAR icon_biggrin.gif And I figure pearls are a good way to achieve it. Plus I guess I just wanted to make up a whole bunch of them to just have on hand.

I've considered using my beadmaker to make a strand then breaking the strand up to make individual beads. That might be a little faster than using your tip. I don't know. You'll probably still have to roll them in your palm once you've broken them apart.

That's actually a pretty good idea icon_smile.gif I'll try that!

Thanks

There is a better way for making them yourself. Get a bead maker. They sell them at Micheals in the clay section where they have the clay and beads. It makes 3 shapes, round being one of them (also diamond and oval). You get the bead maker and a little round cutter to get uniform amounts. It makes 3 or 4 at a time. It is made of clear plastic and has a top and a bottom. Put the fondant in, move the two peices against each other back and forth and you have several pearls. Pretty easy. Of course...it is easier to stick your hand into a box of pre-made fondant pearls and grab a handful!

Where can I get this "pearl press"?

I just finished making a ton of pearls by hand, and it's really, really, tedious!

earlen's or sugarcraft carries them, as well as many other cake sites.
