Wow did I make a mistake.

I just made this cake for fun so it doesn't matter... but holy cow... The thing sank and buldged all over the place... it was sticky, the crumbs were relentless. BUT, in all fairness, I had not much frosting to play with so I didn't crumb coat it... I don't know, maybe some of you have had luck with angel food... All I have to say is, it's not for me. Not to decorate anyway.

No way does this cake belong in the "Worst" cakes thread. It's very nicely decorated. Perhaps next time you could freeze the cake and then decorate it. I always freeze ALL my cakes and ice them frozen. I never have to crumbcoat and I never have problems with crumbs at all. I'm sure it would work for Angel Food cake.

BTW, what icing goes well (taste wise) with Angel Food cake?

Well the worst part wasn't the crumbs... it was the fact that the cake was so spongy it wouldn't stay shaped. It was all floppy. If I would have frozen it, the top would have still sunk and froze that way...sigh... but I had hopes for the little guy.

I just used regulaar buttercream. It can be overwhelmingly sweet, and I'm sure fresh whipped icing would have been better...but I wanted to practice borders. I tried with fresh once it wasn't easy and didn't hold up to piping so well.

But I like cake and I'm cheating from my diet this weekend. (I'm in it for the long haul this next whole month NO CHEATING. So I'm enjoying myself while it lasts). So it tastes good to me!!!

The flowers are MMF... I think it's ok but I don't think it's my best.

I know that I am new at this but I do beleive that cake is just cute as it can be, where are the faults that you are talking about, I honestly don't see any, GREAT JOB!!!

I feel that the cake is nicely decorated. Your expectation is very high then.

BTW, how do you make the flowers with MMF?

I just made the flowers with the gumpaste cutters and book by wilton, except used MMF in lieu of the gumpaste.

About the cake - I don't know. My idea of a cool cake is a great theme or sculpted cake etc. I guess I'm not a huge fan of the regular looking cakes. This was just a regular cake to me. I just did it in fun. Didn't have alot to use that day. I don't think it absolutely sucks I just don't think it is spectacular or anything. Maybe if you saw it in person you would have seen how the center was badly sunken in. The flowers are hiding it.
