Any other tips or ideas for a less sweet frosting-
I used the all butter and confectioner sugar recipe- I think I will decorate with this but what recipe could I use that maybe not as sweet?

Thanks icon_smile.gif

do you use salted or unsalted butter. The salt will cut down on the sweetness but you don't want too much salt

I use the 1/2 butter and 1/2 crisco recipe and I add 1/2 tablespoon of salt to my milk and mix well.

This last week I tried the faux fondant recipe and everyone thought it was the best icing yet. I had a piece of the cake and found that it was by far the least sweet of all the buttercreams I have made before. I also like the extra special buttercream icing.

I use the Butterless Buttercream. I found the recipe here on CC. To get a buttery taste I replace 50 g shortening with butter and instead of vanilla I use orange flavour. I think the orange cuts the sweetness. I know that many of you don´t like the greasy taste of the shortening but I live in Germany - no Crisco - and our Palmin doesn´t have that taste I think.
I also tried the Bakers buttercream and it tastes very good. But it has to be refrigerated and I think it isn´t stiff enough for making roses, but if you need it for frosting only it would be fine.
