So, I read the tutorial on making CallaLilies, I'm still lost. The concept seems simple, but when it comes to the petal, I'm lost. Is there a petal pattern for that and if so, where? I can't seem to wrap my head around the hear shape cookie cutter. Would someone please explain to me how to make a callalilie. I want to make them 3" to 4". Any help will be appreciated.

Calla lilies are my favorite and love to make them. I don't use the heart shape cutter because for me the flower doesn't look delicate. (that's my opinion) You can get calla lilies cutter at any online place were cold porcelain supplies are sold. Some of them come in sets, so you can make different sizes. If you are making small callas you don't need a cutter. Star by making a small ball and then shape to tear drop and flatten with fingers around edges and then wrap around stem. Is helpful if you make the stems and let them dry for a day or so.

I haven't made these yet, but I've seen it demonstrated. Doesn't look that difficult at all. Did you look on the Wilton website? There are instructions on how to make it. Some modifications of those instructions that I received were to use a large heart cookie cutter to make the flower. Before the flower is dry fold out the edges slightly. Also remember to leave a small hole at the bottom of the flower so that you can put the stamen in after everything dries. You can also brush a little colored non-toxic yellow chalk inside the flower around the flower to resemble pollen. Also some green chalk around the outside tip where the flower meets the stem.

OK, this is what I have so far. In the first photo, I made cones to shape it. I have them at the edge so the top could hang a little. The second shows how it looks without the cone. Finally the end product.
Keep in mind this is just practice. I used a metal heart cookie cutter and my edges aren't very neat.

I would probably roll them a little thinner (maybe 1/16in) & make the flower a little bigger in comparison to the stamen. Do you have a bigger cookie cutter? I would also make a slight bend (kind of a lip) at the top of the flower. Does that make sense?
I love making callas. They are my favorite to do because they are so easy and so pretty. Your stamen looks a little big and your gum paste should be a little bit thinner. Otherwise you did great. Before you know if you are going to cranking out CL without a thought.

Try googling pics of calla lilies to give you a feel for the proportions of this flower. I always look at pics or real flowers before I attempt to make them. This way I know what that are suppose to look like and I can attempt to make them more realistic.
Having said that here are a few tips.
Your calla sausage needs to be a bit thinner. Dye your gumpaste yellow, roll it out in to a sausage and attach it to your wire. Lightly brush it with some water and roll it around in corn meal. Let it dry over night.
The petal roll it out a bit thinner. Then you wont have to use a bigger cutter. Yon can use a dry corn husk to vein it.
You can use toxic pastels to shade the petal...
You did a great job, I want to try to make these, calla's are some of my favorite flowers. Now just need an excuse and some gumpaste.

I think CL can be difficult to place on a cake due to their shape. You did a beautiful job both with the lillies and with your lovely cake.

I think it was Godiva who said she found a picture of the cutout and blew it up a little and printed it. I did the same and cut it out with an xacto knife. It may sound wrong, but while I was practicing, I did not want to spend a lot of money buying the actual thing. After doing it that way, I think I will buy it now. Using the actual thing will be much faster, but I do suggest if you are just practicing, use the printout.
I still have a lot of work to do with these, like rolling the gumpaste thinner. I'm scared!!!!!!!

You did an excellent job with the calla lilies and you're right, using a cutter will be much quicker than trying to use a templet and an exato blade. You can buy one of those pasta machines that has a handle frommost craft shop. They are inexpendive and will save you lots of time. You will also get consistent and even thickness with the gum paste.
Okay, Im on spring break now and I'm feeling brave to try and make these. Does anyone make 6 inch cake toppers in calla lillies in case mine turn out yucky? PM me! Wedding is May 19th so I have a little time to practice, but I feel uncertain and would prefer just buying them....
I have actually seen this in the Wilton Way of Decorating Volume 3. I do not have a scanner but I can describe it as written in the book.
"Calla Lily=This dramatic flower takes a special pivot technique. Hold tip 124, wide end down at a 45 degree angle to surface and move it upward to lay out a ribbon of icing. When ribbon is almost 3 and a half inches long, lift tip, turning narrow end almost straight up and continue to squeeze out icing for a cupped and curved over top. Then continue downward to ribbons starting point, forming a large oval cupped flower.
Next, using yellow icing and tip 8, put tip into base of flower. Squeeze out icing, moving upward for a long bulb center. Pipe tip 7 long stem in green."
