What do you do with your left over frosting...if you have any?

I usually use it to practice roses and borders and stuff.....but I made cream cheese frosting ....it is hard to make roses with because it gets soft.....so I wondered if I coudl store it until I needed it for another cake ??

Never tried with cream cheese frosting, but I always just refrigerate or even sometimes freeze leftover frosting. When I'm ready to use it again, I let it come to room temp. on the counter (with the lid on), whip it up & tint, ice & decorate away.

I always save leftovers. You never know when you'll need a little dab of this or that. I use one particular blend for FBCT, and I keep that in the freezer since I don't do those very often. I always keep a batch of royal icing in the fridge, as it comes in handy for sooooo many things. The other day, I totally frosted a cake using leftovers. Granted, it was almond between the layers and bavarian creme on the outside, but what the heck? It was good!

I've got a Food Saver machine, and it has turned out to be a real blessing for storing not only icings but all those egg yolks I seem to be accumulating. Gotta find something to do with those yolks.... icon_smile.gif

Oh yeah, even if you have a bunch of different colors (buttercream), you can combine them & add some unsweetened cocoa (to taste), about a tbsp. butter (to approx. 3 c. frosting), dash of salt, & milk or water as needed to make spreading consistency & have good chocolate buttercream.
