icon_biggrin.gif I need some ideas for a firetruck cake. I looked at the ones in the gallery, and I want to try to make a 3D one. My friend asked me if I would do one for her sons third birthday. So I want it to look ok. I love making cakes, and this willl be a good challenge for me. Any ideas would be welcome. Whether its how to get the perfect color of red food coloring, or how to make smooth icing or anything to do with making the cake. I need all the help I can get.

I am not a professional and simply make cakes for the creative outlet, but mine usually turn out great and I get a lot of requests for special birthday cakes. I made a firetruck cake last summer for my friend's little girl, I had not discovered the joys of marshmallow fondant yet so I used buttercream. I made chocolate frosting and added my red and black to it to get the deep colors I wanted. This worked ok, not as vibrant as I would have liked though. I made a really big loaf cake for the truck itself. If I were doing it now I would use the mm fondant for everything, the windsheild, hoses, ladder, tires etc. On my cake I used different tips to draw a ladder on the side and the hoses etc. Check out all the tips for using fondant on here, they are awsome.
