Does Anyone Use The Play-Doh Fun Factory?

Good morning everyone. I'm thinking of purchasing the Play-Doh Fun Factory off of ebay. I believe that it has the shape that you can use to make hair? I emailed the person selling it and asked if it does in fact have this feature but I haven't heard back yet. If anyone uses this Fun Factory with fondant, can you tell me what else you've made with it? I guess that it's also a concern about food safety. If anyone has any suggestions on its uses, please let me know. I'll need to bid on it soon if I decide to get it. Thanks sooooooo much.
There are definitely CCers who've mentioned using this for fondant. You might want to check out Target/Walmart/Michaels - it sells for only about $6 where I live.
I have never used one, but a few on here say it is great..... I would make sure it is NEW and not been used with play dough though...

Why couldn't you just wash really good and bleach
Dont kids eat play doh? No I was Thinking it is non toxic because they might eat it . Just like school glue. So I would imagine it wouldnt be really horrible to use it for fondant.
I asked the question about making hair several months on here and was told to use a garlic press .... which i purchased for about $3 at Walmart and it works GREAT. Some ppl suggested the Fun Factory as well so you could try it either way to see what ya liked.
Althought the Fun Factory would also give you more options than hair only. Also i would check the toy store websites in the clearance section you may get lucky and find it brand new for a few bucks.
Just a thought.

I'm no expert, by any means, but I tried using it with MMF and it did not work. It wasn't soft enough to push through. Play doesn't even go through real well, it oozes out the sides.
I bought this to use with fondant but my children got to it first!! It is true that some dough oozes out the sides but it does produce plenty of shaped dough. To use it with fondant - you need to coat the parts with a thin film of crisco and soften the fondant by adding more crisco and kneading it very well. It will then work well. I tried it with scrap fondant just to see. I also found that you can disassemble the machine and wash it completely. I am planning on buying another one for myself as it is only $6.50 here in Canda and in my area the only thing I can easily get my hands on. Also since decorating is my hobby I like to not spend lots of money on any one tool. It does have a hair making section but the garlic press might be better for small figures as the fun factory hair might be a little thick for smaller figures.
A BIG Thank You to each of you. Great suggestions and advice. I appreciate it sooooo much. You guys really are great!!!!
Is there a Dollar General Store close by ? They sell there for 5.00. Cheaper than ebay, minus the shipping.

I got a Dollar General advertisment in the mail yesterday showing it on sale for 3 bucks (reg 5)! !!
guess I'll get one for me ...and two for the boys for easter
I bought one at Dollar General for $5 recently & used it for a purse cake for fun. It worked great. You do have to Crisco up the parts, though! I made the handles & the zipper & the trim pieces with it.

that is a HUGE difference in price!! and thats the exact same one at Dollar General!
I use my garlic press and it's wonderful because it's metal and sturdy. I've tried the playdough stuff before, but the handle thingy kept breaking off - I think I was trying for stars or something.

Yes, I was wondering about that... To the dollar store I go, the dollar store I go, hi ho the dairy-O to the dollar store I go...
Hello, I used the play dough factory to make a fondant spagetti for cake that was a bowl of spagetti and meatballs. Also use it to make graduation tassels.
I use a tool meant for Polymer clay, it pushes thru like garlic press but it comes with 20 some attachments in various shapes/sizes. I got it from Michael's and paid under $10 for it.
I'm new at the fondant, still playing and experimenting with it's tolerance. Okay here it goes ... Some are going to think I'm nuts and roast me on this, but some of my scrapbooking tools work great too - cutters and some (not all) of my punches.
Does anyone have any suggestions on storage? When something does work, I can't bring myself to destroy it and kneed it back into the batch. I end up making a bunch and now I have a collection of plastic tubs (ie: yogurt, sour cream, butter containers etc.) sitting in my pantry. It's starting to get annoying and I'm looking for ideas on space management. Also any suggestions on space management for storing cake toppers?
