Hi. My name is Ashley and I am new to the site. I need some help. I am thinking about making my mom a flower pot cake, but I'm not quite sure where to start. I don't need it to be all that big, but I want it to look real. Do I just make round cakes, stack them up, and then trim it to look like a pot? Please help. Thanks.

Welcome! There's a very nice article here on CC. You can find it on the home page, it's called Step-by-step 3-D cake sculpting. It's fairly intricate but it includes a detailed description of how to create a flower pot and even has pictures. Good luck!

<------------- Here is one I made (my avatar) probably only serves 8-10...not really that big, but we were having a small birthday party!! Anyhow, what I did was I baked a 6" round and that was my bottom and then I baked a cake in a stainless steel mixing bowl, stacked them upside down and then cut the shape....I found it easier to cut it upside down because then I was going for a pyramix type shape.....and then I just frosted it and put the fondant on it upside down too...it was REALLY EASY!!!!! I would make another in a heartbeat, probably one of the easiest cakes I have ever made!!! If you need anymore help just pm me I would be glad to assist in any way!

I have never done this myslef.....

But a friend of mine that is a cake decorator cooked her cake in the flower pot. She said she just covered the hole up in the bottom and filled it with batter. It came out just fine. She then covered it with BC and then fondant. I saw her pics, they were great....

Jusy a thought...

If you get a Terracotta or Clay Pot you can bake your cake in it. Just make sure you grease it up well, fill any drainage holes in the bottom and then put some greaseproof paper in the bottom of the pot before you fill it.

Make sure you don't try a plastic one though.
