Hey everyone! I'm wondering if anyone here knows how to create those cakes that look like there are stems separating one tier from the next. The examples I've seen use calla lilys, but I would like to create one using tulips. Any advice would be most welcome!!!!!
Thank you!!

My guess if I had to do it is using a support in the middle. Envision a single plate with a single pillar holding it up, you can do fondant or gumpaste stems and stick em' to the middle support and have flowers on the top tier. It would have that effect I imagine.

There are a couple of plate systems sold that have a single pillar. I have a graduation cap cake that I did with it and it works out great. Of course it has a base to stabilize it but there are two different types that have this method. The center support is a clear plastic or acrylic hollow post.

I would suggest making the stems out of gumpaste and attach them around the plastic pillars, using the pillar as support. This will maintain the structural stability of the cake.

Thank you all!!! I have the old fashioned wilton center stand, so I'm going to try that. I'll post a picture after I finish this weekend.

Well, I ran out of time to try the faux stemed look, so I just decided to use stacked construction and it turned out pretty well, considering I had a mm fondant disaster night!!! The picture can be found in my photos
