Watch Your Fingers -- A Minor Delivery Disaster!

Okay, so this isn't exactly about the cake itself, but this disaster happened in the transportation of it, so I wanted to share...
I was delivering a birthday cake for a 1 year old with my 1 month old asleep in the car...
Right on time and looking forward to seeing my customer's reaction to the cake, I hopped out of the car and then thought -- better not let the door slam on my sleeping infant...and that's when it happened...
Holding the door with my fingers, I attempted to let the door shut gently. Well, my delivery must have been too much on my mind because I let the door shut (HEAVILY!) on my right index finger!
It took all I had not to yell/swear in the middle of the street as I frantically waved and shook my hand to relieve the pain. It only made it worse knowing I still had to actually pick up the cake and get it to their front door. By this time, all thoughts of their reaction were completely out of my head!
I managed to stifle all my cries and get the cake up to their front door, but I was in so much pain (and I could already see the blue/black beginning to form on the base of my nail) that I just made sure the cake looked as it had when I left the house and then left without even waiting for my check!
I probably won't lose the nail, but it sure looks ugly! And, I've definitely learned to keep my mind on what's in front of me instead of solely on the cake in the back of the car!
Oooh! I know how that feels. I'm sure your cake was beautiful! I hope it feels alot better now.
You poor thing! The last time I jammed my finger in a car door I was holding my daughter, and I nearly fainted from the shock. I am nervous enough delivering a cake, let alone that happening!
makes my eyes water just reading about it - poor you! Hope you're on the mend now! (((hugs)))
I'm on the mend now and think my finger's well enough to start tackling the job of kneading fondant again! Thanks for the support!
All I can say is "typical mom"! We are always multi-tasking and trying to get everything done at the same time. So sorry to hear about your finger. Here's a kiss for your boo boo!
